British Airways have that cod-Classical thing from there TV adverts with voiceovers promoting over services/the thing where you give them your unwanted loose change at the end of the flight. Very annoying.

Don't know about inappropriate, but...the standard Muzak can be interesting when the mood is right. Last time I heard an EZ Listening track and thought, "This sounds like Kruder & Dorfmeister!"

I am not opposed to call holding music, unless it's just some vocals who start blabbering without any background music. Usually I am unaware it's holding music, so I start chatting.... and suddenly the instruments start playing.

I hate it when they have call hold music and then a voice comes on telling you thank you for holding, please keep holding, cos I always get excited and think I finally made it to a person.

I once called a private business company in reference to a job interview and they put me on hold. They played Frank Sinatra at me = goodness.

One hold line piped in a radio station. I don't remember what music was playing, but while I was on hold the station ran an Emergency Broadcast Signal test. Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuch.

This is a bit of a tangent.. A friend told me that yesterday on NPR, after a story about anthrax, the musical interlude was the feedback from Gang of 4's "Anthrax" .. obscure reference to be sure.
