How can I force all of my friends to listen to the music I like?

And don't give me any of that nonsense about how everyone should be free to listen to whatever music he or she chooses. I want homogeneity!

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Monday, 23 February 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i've found that if they hear it enough they start to think they like it purely through recognition.

You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose. But you can't pick your friend's nose.

Yeah, that's totally it, what surface noise said. Most people honestly can't distinguish between being familiar with something and liking it, so just keep playing the stuff you want them to hear when you're around them and eventually you'll find that they like it too. Unless there's another force active upon them that's pulling them in another direction (they read pitchfork! Oh no! :)).

Okay, WTF! I've never seen this weird picture-beside-the-text stuff ever on ILX! How did you do that George?

DAn I., Monday, 23 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

It's just simple HTML mark-up language. The easiest way to show it is for you to hit Alt-V, or "View," when on the page, tab down to show as "Source" and click that. The page will show up as HTML code and just search down until you see the line of mark-up language with the "lester.jpg" in it.

The key tokens are IMG ALIGN=LEFT...

Get a very loud speaker that can't be switched off and follow them round with it.

That said, they may not want to be your friends any more.

can't you just kill your friends and have them sit in chairs at your dining room table wearing party hats and then pretend that they are talking to you and telling you how much they looooooove your taste in music forever and ever?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 23 February 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Optional: Alcohol ad libitum. Worked famously for me once with regards to a cassette copy of the Dictators' Manifest Destiny.

The 11 minute version of "Blue Sky" on the recently released Allman Brothers: S.U.N.Y. Stonybrook 9/19/71 is one of the most blissful, perfect recordings I've ever heard.

Is Simon Reynolds gonna talk about it though? Nah, of course not; he doesn't know how to write about the accomplishments of individual musicians. He doesn't know how to parse music. But, you know, he's british. He's a disgrace and an affront to every young kid who ever tried to pick up an instrument and make their way in the world.

Broheems (diamond), Monday, 23 February 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

A bit harsh, that.
