Really, is there any difference? They're both filed under Electronica.

Curt (cgould), Monday, 23 February 2004 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Then isn't there a Sugargliders? It takes more hands to glide sugar, apparently, than to pitch or push super or square, respectively.

Curt (cgould), Monday, 23 February 2004 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend had a pet Sugar Glider that drowned in the toilet. His girlfriend accidentally peed on it at 4am.

The Second Drummer Drowned (Atila the Honeybun), Monday, 23 February 2004 06:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Squarepusher - cold, intellectual experimentalism
Superpitcher - warm, human experimentalism

i.e Superpitcher wins.

Jacob (Jacob), Monday, 23 February 2004 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

big churning glam rock stomp bass (superpitcher) vs slap bass (squarepusher)

superpitcher wins again.

simon 803 (simon 803), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

good vs. crap

superpitcher wins again

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

'Aksel' vs 'Tom'

Superpitcher won't stop winning

Barima (Barima), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

What was Squarepusher's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" cover like? Superpitcher's "Baby's on Fire" was fucking horrible but otherwise I'm pretty sure he wins easily enough

Silly Sailor (Andrew Thames), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)

squarepusher being a twat, this really isn't too difficult a choice

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:28 (twenty-two years ago)

s'pitcher is not really very experimental, either, i should add

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo otm

toby (tsg20), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

invincible: superman

search and delete (searchanddelete), Monday, 23 February 2004 14:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Superpitcher = Yay!
Squarepusher = Yawn

So unless you like being bored...

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

(with the possible exception of 'My Red Hot Car')

mmmmsalt (Graeme), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I think we have stumbled on the concept that all of ILM can agree upon. (of course now that I've jinxed it . . . )

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

i know nothing of superpitcher. but cummon¡ - it's like no one who's posted has heard anything but squarepusher's last 2 album - he was quite good before that - certainly anything but boring.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Honest citizen vs Barbecue Thief

Superpitcher wins again!

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not THAT hip to either, I just felt like going along with the theme.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 23 February 2004 15:59 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmmsalt OTM.

Red Hot Car is the great Squarepusher tune. The rest is very hit and miss. His Love Will tear us Apart cover is pretty terrible. But you cannot sit and really listen to much Squarepusher.

Superpitcher original material is excellent to date. Remixes are a bit more hit and miss (can't get into the Ghost Cauldron one). And we can only patch together enough tracks so far for one album, against Squarepushers nine (?) or so.

So, if we cut down the best squarepusher tracks from all the LPs to twelve tracks - ie. the same material as Superpitcher has ever released - well....

Superpitcher still wins.

___ (___), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i add one more vote to superpitcher

paulhw (paulhw), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Under my desk, here, I have a copy of "Feed me Weird Things"

Am I a lucky soul (i.e. is it any good?)

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Is Superpitcher actually that good or is he just being artificially puffed up by being compared to Squarepusher?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a bit like comparing electronic chalk or cheese.

At which point electronic chalk wins, btw.

___ (___), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Come on guys (I assume guys..)

What about "Feed me weird things"?

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Supersuckers trump.

Spinktron 2000 (El Spinktor), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Iambic 5 poetry, red hot car, almost all the non-bleep tracks on Go Plastic, intensely awesome "Music is Rotted One Note" (I don't care if you don't like it but isn't at least part of great music about making something no one has ever heard?), I can't believe I'm reading people slag this guy. Sure he's a bit of a pill and puts fake crowd noise under his records but he has permanently changed the face of all that crappy IDM and I respect the man. His early stuff is certainly more 'listenable' but also a bit boring. I still put on the first track on Big Loada when I go to the gym, it's been so long since that song came out.

Anyway I think Sugarplastic trumps both, but had to support my man.

caspar (caspar), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Supercollider (the L.A. duo) wins.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Superconductor come close though.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 23 February 2004 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Feed Me Weird Things is ace. Fake crowd noise is brilliant.. i mean FFS.. do you think he's thinking "that'll fool em.."

Superpitcher still win cos Squarepusher has a big beard

snd, Monday, 23 February 2004 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

ya, feed me weird things - quality. but to me, nothing tops selection 16.
and if we're going to bring up go plastic, "i wish you could talk" should also be noted as a stand-out track.

dyson (dyson), Monday, 23 February 2004 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't heard enough superpitcher to comment

But that first track from Feed Me Weird Things...sexual chocolate.

I'll agree with the general theme of the thread; Squarepusher is too hit and miss. It's fucking cool to see him live, get drunk, then go nuts over his stupid bass playing.

TomB (TomB), Monday, 23 February 2004 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Caspar otm about Sugarplastic. DB gets honorable mention for Superconductor. I personally submit that Superchunk also trumps, though I know ILM will likely not agree with me.

martin m. (mushrush), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

and what about Supertramp?

snd, Monday, 23 February 2004 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

or supersuckers¿

dyson (dyson), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"And we can only patch together enough tracks so far for one album, against Squarepushers nine (?) or so."
New Superpitcher full-length just showed up. Nine new trax.

Beta (abeta), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

superhopper.

subgenius (subgenius), Monday, 23 February 2004 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

the idea that people think Squarepusher is bad NOT based on his early work is baffling

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 23 February 2004 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

sugargliders. because i love sarah records

phil-two (phil-two), Monday, 23 February 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone heard of Superthriller?

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 11:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks for the "Feed me" feedback there. I have the CD nexty to the Harry Partsch anthology thingy...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"out of your mind" by truesteppers with dane bowers feat victoria beckham is a shockingly similar record to my red hot car and much, much better.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 12:07 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
LMAO!!!!

"out of your mind" by truesteppers with dane bowers feat victoria beckham is a shocking [...] record [...]

mr. bump, Monday, 11 October 2004 21:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Mouse on Mars.

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 11 October 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't read most of this thread but Squarepusher's Hard Normal Daddy was a revelation in the nineties, Superpitcher's tech-house is minimal house gone pop. I like pitcher, but pusher is a better musician and when he makes a memorable track it sticks with you, on the other hand I've found most of pitcher's music while good to forgetable. someone stole my second lp from whatever his 2xLP on kompatk was, here comes I love think, and I haven't missed it. Additionally that cover of Fever is awfull.
