Methinks Super Furry Animals might be a little miffed at this. Unless it's them, in which case...huh.

Not much of a cover. Nice sleeve tho!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

It's pretty much crap, either way. Sorry to say.

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

doesn't sound much like the von bondies. pretty bad.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

[insert joke about self-contradiction here]

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

god, that's bad. i'm having trouble believing it's the von bondies, though. sounds like my band in high school.

ken taylrr, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:53 (twenty-two years ago)

It's probably by the OP.

anode (anode), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 18:55 (twenty-two years ago)

me thinks they wouldn't have done it if Jack White didn't kick the living shit out of Capt. Von Bondie there. Wow.

Chris V (Chris V), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I rather liked that, the vocal was smashing, trippy and angry.
Best thing I've heard from the Von Bondies actually.

railbait, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I dunno. If I were beaten up by Jack White, I'd be hesitant to draw any attention to that.

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

there's no way this is the von bondies! it sounds nothing like them.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe that was the whole point, to sound nothing like themselves. They haven't put their name on it after all. The lyrics are "at" jack white too. The dedication takes the piss out of "gentleman jack". I think the more attention brought to the beating jack gave Jason just helps to remind all that Jack White, while being an ace guitarist is really a loathsome phony violent human being that spits on people. For years he's been preaching to the peppermint kids from his web site. He's full of shit and that track is a kick up his arse. Well done Jason. Strike back with music.

railbait, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

While I don't know enough about Jack White to disagree with you, the concept of recording someone's song is "striking back" at them is beyond me.

As is the concept of covering a song before learning it, as clearly happened here.

Rick Massimo (Rick Massimo), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Who are the "peppermint children"?

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

If I were beaten up by Jack White, I'd be hesitant to draw any attention to that.

it's like getting beat at chess by Ted Nugent

My Huckleberry Friend (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

This sounds nothing like the Von Bondies, but kudos to whoever writes anything against that creepy Michael Jackson wannabe.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"Michael Jackson wannabe"? But Jack doesn't know any "brown people"!

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Le Coq, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe that was the whole point, to sound nothing like themselves. Well done Jason. Strike back with music.

WHAT A CROCK O' SHIT!

Francis Watlington (Francis Watlington), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Why does the phase "strike back with music" make me giggle hysterically?

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 22:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i smell ground level street-teaming on this thread...

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

He should've just fought back in the club .... (or maybe he did, v. unsuccessfully)

dean! (deangulberry), Tuesday, 24 February 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"Striking back with music" sounds like something out of an after-school special.

DougD, Tuesday, 24 February 2004 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

By fighting back I mean exposing Jack White a s a fraud. His PR is this old gentleman thing, be nice to your folks, don't be a dick, be polite, blah blah blah. he's a fucking phony. Look at the kid's face. Jack alleges he's a Christian, that mean you turn the other cheek, and all that. Jack White is a fraud and Jason is exposig him as such. Fighting back with this image as a record sleeve. It's more punk rock than anything going on right now. Something Cobain would've done methinks. But I'm not a hard ass like y'all. Had my face busted and broke so many times for shooting my mouth off and not fighting back when physically attacked. I'm not afraid to say what's on my mind, and I don't need to beat my chest or anybosy's face based on words. That's what I'm getting from this. Sorry if it's too deep for you. Now get out their kick some damn ass boys. You're so fuckin hard sitting behind your little screen.

railbait, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:25 (twenty-two years ago)

'Something Cobain would've done methinks.'

pissing myself

pete s, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

didn't the brady bunch strike back with music when their house was going to be possessed?

pete s, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:32 (twenty-two years ago)

You don't think music has power to cause drastic changes in people, in the world?

railbait, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yes.

what have you got against jack white?

pete s, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Singing songs sucks, bring back shooting people nine times.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

jack white's hypocrisy = something needed drastic change?

dean! (deangulberry), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 00:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the beating jack gave Jason just helps to remind all that Jack White, while being an ace guitarist is really a loathsome phony violent human being that spits on people

Jack White is so punk rock!

Former Supposed So Called Nihilist Teenage Drug Disco Addiction Counselor (mjt), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

didn't the brady bunch strike back with music when their house was going to be possessed?
-- pete s (petesesnai...), February 25th, 2004.

Also, if they plan on shutting down the rec center, the only way to save it is through break dancing.

David Allen (David Allen), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Flaming Lips to a great live version of said song

mentalist (mentalist), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I can just imagine Jack White fuming with rage listening to it.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 07:10 (twenty-two years ago)

didn't the brady bunch strike back with music when their house was going to be possessed?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

"We just heard this plaace exiiiisteeed..."

Search the FLips cover, it's all over slsk etc - it uses the music from 7NA and the words from, uh, some Butthole Surfers tune or other. It's very bloody good.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

There's also Kidz With Toyz, a Swansea outfit who rap over said song on a forthcoming single, 'U Can't C Me' (it's already appeared on some mashup type mixes I think). This Flaming Lips thing sounds better though

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

there's no way this is the von bondies! it sounds nothing like them.

Agreed.

Aaron W (Aaron W), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 13:49 (twenty-two years ago)

This IS a street team plot. The Bondies may be involved in some way, but it's not Jason singing. It is getting around though. I got two e mails from friends in Detroit who were saying they heard it at St. Andrews Hall, place went nuts apparently.

oleolson, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

So this is basically Detroit Garage Rock's Nas vs. Jay-Z, only completely retarded.

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Detroit's 89X radio station is supposed to play it late tonight according to my brother's girlfriend.

oloeolson, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

hahha nate!!!

maura (maura), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

so does anyone have any actual idea who might have recorded this?

ken taylrr, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone really punk rock.

Colin Beckett (Colin Beckett), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Someone with salmonella.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Jack White is trying to have that web site shut down. He's not happy about that photo being put to his baby SNA.

railbait, Thursday, 26 February 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope Jack starts just beating people up like some drunken garage rock Zodiac Bitchslapper and they make a made-for-TV movie about it starring Macaulay Culkin with a jet-black dye job.

(ps Elephant is still super-keen)

Nate in ST.P (natedetritus), Thursday, 26 February 2004 02:50 (twenty-two years ago)

reminds me of the episode of South Park where Russell Crow travels around the world beating people up.

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 26 February 2004 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
that was shit! it cant be the von bondies and if it is thats a disgrace and a let down to all the von bondies fans out there!

LaLa, Sunday, 4 April 2004 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
The Von Bondies certainly do suck! Jason is a smug prick, he deserved ewhat he got. I don't believe it was unprovoked at all, Jason is just jealous of Jack's better band, what an asshole. The White Stripes kick could The Von Bondies Ass any day, oh yeah, Jack already did! :-P
