the best is having said individual talking loudly about himself and his music "projects" in your immediate vicinity during a wolf eyes show, otherwise oblivious to "his favorite band".

lauren (laurenp), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't realize this was about bands that are currently active. I should pay more attention.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

The Bad Plus are pretty great. But I guess they're not exactly rock. They're pretty rock for jazz, though. (And not just because of the Nirvana cover -- mostly because of the drummer.)

spittle (spittle), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think it's especially rare, Mark, sorry. You don't like "Visible Cow" though...even from a production standpoint?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

its certainly not rare - lots of bargain bins have copies .. i will spin it again .. (along with Gonzos Pres. Suite) and i have to say i never noticed the production aspect.
suspect its a particular mood album ..

mark e (mark e), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

fritz writes:

"eavesdrop" haha... have you ever heard wolf eyes? better yet, seen them live? do you realize the volume you have to speak at to make yourself heard over the din?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Grant Lee Buffallo were nice.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Beat Happening

Scrawl
The Receptionists
De La Soul
Cabaret Voltaire
SF Seals

mike a, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

oops - I meant the Go-Luckys, not SF Seals. Wrong era of Barbara Manning.

mike a, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Coachwhips=boredom incarnate -- and even if the music was halfway decent and not paint by numbers, it's hard to get past the meaningless, self important antics. I feel sorry for anyone who has to live in the same city as those losers.

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

wow. whatever, i like the record. I had no idea they inspired such antipathy.

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

The Clean
Killdozer (first phase with Hobson Bros)
Halo Of Flies

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

John Dwyer is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
signifying nothing.

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

OK... sorry to have brought up his band then, jack!

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

he was great in pink and brown (and lived across the country).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

is this a personal problem between the 2 of you, or is he just generally offensive to the city of SF? I'm really not trying to wind you up - just curious. I really had no idea he had such a bad rep (not that I know very much about him or anything).

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

your not winding me up, fritz -- dont mean to upset you -- just going with the flow.

as for John Dwyer, I liked Pink & Brown, OCS, and Landed. for me, Dywer is the epitome of wasted potential while also being a boob who tries to weasel his way into play in shows at the last minute (besides just being kind of idiotic and rude).

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Trans Am!

ara, Wednesday, 25 February 2004 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

wolf guyz. olneyville sound system.

Ian Johnson (orion), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

isnt there four people in olneyville?

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Cabs were just Kirk and Mallinder (another of my inexplicable crushes-what a mouth!). My head's exploding.

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 25 February 2004 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

over time there have been more than three members, but both of their recent records (what is true/false, efforts in freedumb) feature three people apiece. also, the last time i saw them live (a LONG time ago; they don't play much cuz Adam lives in NYC) they were a trio with the Effforts in Freedumb lineup.
