My father had a lot of records when I was growing up, most of them trad vocalists not to my tastes (my father, who will be 70 this year, is more or less pre-rock era). He had a few I remember by a French artist named Saint-Preux. I remember him telling me he met this fellow at a party probably in the mid-70s, and later was sent a package of his records. The one that made the biggest impression on me was called "Samara". I discovered this by googling the name, and finding the artist's French Web site. Strangely, the two songs whose titles I recalled ("Save Me" and "Give Me Some Music") were not be found among the listed discography. I wrote to the webmaster asking about the songs, and was informed they were to be found on the LP "Samara", which had never been reissued. "You won't find it anywhere" I was advised. Of course, you can find anything, and curiousity and nostalgia getting the best of me, I ordered the album from someone in Quebec. I just got it today. I can't really compare the music to anything, but it's definately prog. Take maybe *maybe* "Ummagumma" era Floyd, and add lots of orchestration, spaced-out sound effects, synth playing, full-throated Euro vocals, and (best of all) lots of 'aaahhhh' chorale... lord knows who this appealed to, he's got no AMG entry, and I can't find a shred of other info on him on the Web. Does anyone have any knowledge of Mr. Saint-Preux??
