They're supposedly flamenco mixed with hiphop and a bit of Manu Chao, with no domestic label cds for Americans, but several releases available in the UK...I haven't heard them, though...

H. from Ethiopia is involved with them in some way I think. He posted a message a while back about an NYC gig.

been hearing a lot about them ever since i got to madrid...checked both of their CDs out and they're okay, nothing really special, in my opinion...don't really grab my attention like i thought they would, but everytime i play some of their stuff at parties at least one person asks who's playing and they end up loving it...

they're supposed to be stellar live, though, but unfortunately their gig was cancelled a few months back...their second CD, 'Bari', is the best one of the lot...

yeah they mix flamenco and hip-hop, sometimes in a very exciting way, and sometimes in a quite boring way. i like the fact that they have a big success in spain (and other countries, it seems) having self-released the album and working as an anarchist community group. like a flamenco chumbawamba, in a way.
all in all their music it's quite enjoyable, they have a very good show live, and it might sound exotic and interesting to most of you.
they are about to release a remix album feat. asian dub foundation and others. check www.ojosdebrujo.com for more info.

Every December, my "what is all this modern music all about?" boyfriend browses the lists of nominees on the Radio 3 World Music Awards website, listens to the sample tracks on offer, picks his 3 or 4 favourites, and gives them to me as part of my Xmas present. ("World Music" is one of the genres where our tastes meet in the middle; it's a show of unity.) This year, I got CDs by Rokia Traore, John Boden & Jon Spiers... and Ojos De Brujo.

I, er, respect it - but it doesn't blow me away. There's something a bit... worthy about it; I could easily imagine them on Big World Café about 15 years ago. Nearest reference point is Manu Chao, but there's not the same urgency about it. Having said that, I can easily imagine that they would be a storming live act...
