Elton John - Benny and the Jets (whatever else you might say about the artist or the song, the piano playing here is flawless and glorious)

Michael Finnissy's "History of Photography in Sound" is a spectacular contemporary work for solo piano, several hours long. Ian Pace has performed the whole thing and recorded portions (with a complete recording on the way I assume); but I think the most inspired renditions on disc are Nicolas Hodge's: http://www.nicolashodges.com/content/CDs/cd-finnissyetched.htm
