Kiss Kovers -

So you're bored with the Kiss:Klassic or Dud conversation? Howzabout Kiss Kovers?

My favorite is an obscure Kover by Cincinnati's Chem Dyne - "Cold Gin." They remade the song with a killer bassline. Too bad Kiss didn't have their creativity. (Chem Dyne, the band that brought you the ORIGINAL song called "Black Concert T-Shirt")

The Replacements' 'Black Diamond' doesn't quite cut it, because they don't do the original's fabulously stupid and ponderous ending (playing the same chord over and over while slowing the tape down). OTOH, Redd Kross' 'Deuce' is a little too close to the original, not as good as their destruction of Bowie's 'Saviour Machine'.

Also, wasn't 'Quadrophenia' a barely-disguised copy of 'Destroyer'?

Except that song itself was a cover of another band, surely -- Argent, right? Scary that I should know this!

White Zombie's "God of Thunder" ... 1989. A messy & brutal (but fun) take.
