Rancid's "Indestructable" a Hell-Cat/WARNER BROS joint? Company info required on CDs, websites...?

I'm not much of a Rancid fan, to be honest, but I'd heard a lot about this record. I can't find any corporate info or whatever you call it on Hell-Cat (or Epitaph, for that matter) that states ownership and all that. Now, is Hell-Cat a Rancid-owned label, subsidary of Epitaph? Is it it's own, independant thing? Is it part owned by WB? Or was that just this one record, which--despite supposedly NOT containing this info on the packing--several websites are saying is a joint release.

This just makes me insane.

And what the hell is V2? Is it Virgin, is it some indie? At least with the "fake indie" plague of the mid-90s, you could read the fine print. Now I can't make heads nor tails of whos who...

Anyone?

Warner Bros. is all over Hellcat now. Plus they got the Distillers out of it.

V2 is the record label set up by Branson after he sold the original Virgin to EMI.

OK, so I have no idea who Branson is...

...but that means V2 is an indie? (maybe with some kind of distribution deal, I'd imagine).

But how come Hellcat doesn't have to say this stuff on their site or on their CDs...?

When Matador and Atlantic had their deal not every album had the Atlantic insignia though some that didn't (like Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain) were still distributed by WEA. Both Hellcat and Warner Bros. realize that they wouldn't benefit from trumpeting their connection. WB still gets money, so what do they care? And I doubt there are any "rules" that force the info to appear on CDs. It's just these days companies realize sometimes its better for their hand not to be blatant (ask Vagrant and Universal).

The Beast is growing larger and larger than anyone could have ever thought...

Branson was the singer of Negative Approach and Laughing Hyenas.

Just kidding.

there was a big article in the east bay express about this a month or so ago, the band isn't talking, it's been very hushed up, but hellcat is basically owned by WB now.

As far as "rules" go, I seriously thought there WAS such a thing. I mean, maybe not on the CDs, but at least on company websites.

This is pretty unsettling.

I'm aware of the Matador/Atlantic thing--there's a lot of articles written, maybe because Mata is such a shining example of The Indie Label that people want to know the skinny, or want to tear them down, or restore their faith, whatever.

But what's up with Vagrant and Universal? Don't tell me the former is just a subdivision of the latter?!

After years of proclaiming that they'd never go on a major label, Rancid/Hellcat is probably scared shitless about their reputation or something like that.

This is Branson...
