part one: "Through my eyes"

John "No, I don't know johnny b. goode, lets do "Through my eyes"

John "If you could see through my eyes, you might get a big surpriyyies.."
(Band make attempt but it all falls apart after 30 secs, john tries but gives up after 1 min 40)

part two: "Johnny B.Goode / Roadrunner 'medley'"

Producer : "John?"
John : "Yeah, wot?"
Prod: "They want you to sing "Through my eyes" to the backing of "Johnny B goode"
John "GOD! huh... Alright"

Power chords start up
John "If you could seeee, oh god fuck off" (i.e. it's not exactly going to fit)
But now band are in heaven and carry on riffing for another 3 mins anyway...

The rest you know...

Ummmm.....your point?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That is wonderful. I never heard the Prod: "They want you to sing "Through my eyes" to the backing of "Johnny B goode"
part - I'll listen for it. (is it in the recording?)

Makes a bit more sense...

thanks! (alex NY)

I got that part, dave225, from the Japanese 'replica' CD songsheet. Usually they are laffably wrong but they got that bit I never heared from the double LP (although it is there). They had the line as "This is obscene oh god fuck off" as the first line of the song part of JBG, but on turning up the CD loudly, the "If you could see" clicked in me head. (If you have the 3CD box set, dont bother as that is the original non-tarted up version with the chat removed)

I have an old LP.. ..on Virgin. I state that because my roommate had it on some other label & the songs were in a different order. And on mine, the order listed on the jacket does not match what's listed on the vinyl, does not match the actual track order. So was that all mistakes and/or re-licensing or is that part of the swindle?

dave225 (Dave225), Thursday, 26 February 2004 15:55 (twenty-two years ago)

The double album had two editions:

first one had "Watcha gonna do about it" and an instrmental "God save the queen" orchestra
Second one (the normal one) missed those but added other tracks and had malcolm talking over the "GSTQ" orchestra.

I think it was general confusion... the labels are correct along with the insert for the second one (the sleeve is wrong). The first one sleeve is different again...

Urg.

I just listened to it. Actually, it sounds like the engineer/producer is saying, "They want to play "Johnny B Goode" while you sing "Through My Eyes."

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Thursday, 26 February 2004 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

They aren't direct quotes, I admit.

The tragedy here is shurely the Pistols having to play "Johnny B Goode" at all.

Dingbod Kesterson, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 10:23 (seventeen years ago)

Well, as I say, it was Steve and Paul's idea.

Mark G, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 10:23 (seventeen years ago)

"Roadrunner, roadrunner! Da-da-da-da-da-da-daaaa .... With the RADIO ON!"

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 15:23 (seventeen years ago)

If you have the "Filth and the Fury" soundtrack CD, you will have "Roadrunner" without the Johnny B good 'first part'..

So, the track starts suddenly, with the line "Durrr Durr Durr durrrrrr............................. (I don't know the whurdshahah)"

Mark G, Tuesday, 13 May 2008 15:29 (seventeen years ago)

ah, ten pole tudor

Mark G, Friday, 1 August 2014 11:27 (eleven years ago)

In spite of appearances to the contrary it's not been entirely in vain after all.

Tommy McTommy (Tom D.), Friday, 1 August 2014 11:53 (eleven years ago)
