what do you think? i've seen it on the rack, cover story (Strokes/Reed) looks intriguing but haven't had time to check things out.

I don't know which issue it was in, but they had a pretty great interview with Kevin Shields not too long ago.

I'm liking the magazine. I've only read one issue, but I read it cover to cover. Great articles and features and stuff. The reviews were a bit off (Starsailor's new album got an eight something %...), but the content is tops.

I was given an issue at Mod Lang for free which had an extensive interview with Kevin Shields and a great article on the movie 'Top Secret!'. I'd never picked it up because the worst picture of Michael Stipe was on the cover. I still leave it face down on my coffee table.

is this the old Mean mag thing (the wing that didn't turn into Arthur) yr talking about?

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Friday, 27 February 2004 02:10 (twenty-two years ago)

an article on top secret?!

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 27 February 2004 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

oddly yes. I think the director they interviewed couldn't figure out why they wanted to ask him about it. Great picture of Kilmer with his then girlfriend Cher on set.

two years pass...
I just got the recent issue because there's an interview with Francoise Hardy (sigh). As an added bonus, articles on indie hotties Jenny Lewis & Chan Marshall (tho Chan is starting to look a bit hard, all that smack, i guess)

Who's the intended audience for this mag, other than music geeks with sad crushes on women they'll never meet? I never even picked it up before.

Well they have a "Filter Mini" edition I saw for free at my university with Strokes on the cover. They were talking about Lou Reed's glasses inside. So anyway I guess college students are an important market for them.

FILTER is another one of these pseudo-magazines that is actually published by a marketing company. THE FADER is another.

JayBabcock (jabbercocky), Sunday, 5 March 2006 21:02 (twenty years ago)

here's a question: what about Tokion? because sometimes the content is great, and sometimes i get the sneaking suspicion that it is a pseudo-mag.

Does Filter pay its writers and photogs in pseudo-money?

Filter's record reviews are the most lenient in industry.
Idiots still gave the new Liars album 39%.

Jay Babcock OTM.

three years pass...

Anyone out there hoard their back issues of this magazine? I'm looking for an article from the January 2005 issue (#14, Beck on the cover w/ a bunch of post-it notes) and it is OOP. Contacted the magazine but they have no back issues.
