are the tracks floating around soulseek from the real (finished) album? if so, is it any good? (how could it not?)

sturfn (sturfn), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:18 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, there is a madvillainy promo out. different from the leak from over the summer. it is good.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 26 February 2004 19:55 (twenty-two years ago)

tracklisting? when's it supposed to come out?

I already bought my copy last week in the shop, and I'm in St. John's, Newfoundland. I can only assume that it's been released.

Jonathan (Jonathan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Typed that, THEN I checked the link. So it seems I have mine early, though it's not a promo. Sweet!

Actually, its not out til April. There was some sort of mistake and a couple stores in Canada were sent the album early - consider yourself very fucking lucky, you sunuvabitch.

djdee2005, Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I prefer Goddamnmuthafuckinsunuvabitch.

Thank you very much. :)

Jonathan (Jonathan), Thursday, 26 February 2004 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

according to dude at Stones Throw, the official release date is 3/23 now. he sent me a copy, but of course it was just the goddamn "Hard Copy Retarded" promo shit.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

The version I downloaded not long ago didn't feature MF Doom much (a lot of instrumentals). Is this final version any different?

Bryan N (Bryan N), Friday, 27 February 2004 05:46 (twenty-two years ago)

The final version has like 21 tracks, while the first promo was like 12 cuts with several instrumentals. most of the vocal songs you remember are back, but with different delivery and such. the madlib only song isn't there, that's a random madlib song from 1998.

oh and i'm gonna say, probably in my top 5 for the year. he is so on right now, that doom guy.

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Friday, 27 February 2004 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

is it true that MF isn't doing any of the beats :(

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 27 February 2004 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

just to add to rollie's, for 22 tracks it isn't bloated at all (only 45 minutes) -- there's much more of a hit-it-and-quit mentality with the tracks that keeps things much more interesting as a whole. madlib dominates production (doom does the skitty-er stuff), but it's honestly fine -- i also feel like madlib didn't do a rush job with the production, a laziness that seriously plagued the dudley album, and made the bomb shelter mix and the shades of blue album not as good as they could have been. def top 5

Nick Sylvester, Friday, 27 February 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Rollie.

Not that I minded the instrumentals, but I was slightly disappointed by the lack of MF vocals on King Geedorah.

Still, I love how the instrumentals have this pop-art collage feel to it.

Bryan N (Bryan N), Friday, 27 February 2004 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
This is the hottest fucking thing ever.

Why is no one talking about this.
whywhywhy.

Madlib is a friggin' genius. No one has done this shit with samples like he.

never mind Doom's ridiculous lyrical eccentricities.
"Everything that glitters ain't fishscales."

My favorite beat is "Fancy Clown." It hurts to listen to its so beautiful...

cRaiG (craig!), Thursday, 25 March 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

A lot of amazing production by Madlib, but my first impressions are that its a little too 'blunted' for its own good. There are only 2 or 3 fully realized songs. Its like GBV hip-hop or something. I can see myself liking it more and more.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 25 March 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd say in an era where the hip-hop single is king shit, this is one helluva fully realized album, more than a collection of songs, etc.

djdee2005, Thursday, 25 March 2004 05:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Does GBV mean Guided by Voices? If it was I can totally see your point. ???

cRaiG (craig!), Thursday, 25 March 2004 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

hey san francisco. don't go to this show. doom sucks live. go to my wifee's bday party!

Yeah. Or Wire or something. I've always wanted a hip-hop album to be fractured, spare and w/really short songs. I guess this comes close. I am going to listen to this and the new Cypress Hill album after smoking lots of weed and I'll get back to everyone.

christhamrin (christhamrin), Thursday, 25 March 2004 08:06 (twenty-two years ago)

sixteen years pass...

I've spent more time with DOOM than any other artist since Jan. 1, and after returning to Madvillainy several times I realized...it's not my favorite? Vaudeville Villain was the re-discovery.

one month passes...

Bummed out accordion is not available as a single as I don't want to buy the whole album again.

candyman, Friday, 16 April 2021 12:32 (five years ago)

but if you already have the album why would you—— god you know what, nevermind. nothing you post makes sense anyway. idk why i thought it would be any different today.

'accordian' obviously a total classic, so good revive.

Lol

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 16 April 2021 17:56 (five years ago)

i said i dont want to buy the album again, suggesting that perhaps i no longer have it, which i dont. i DID have it, i.e. i did once own it, but i sold it, so i no longer have the album containing the song accordion, which i enjoy, and want to purchase, but without the album. sadly, i have learnt this is not possible. :(

candyman, Friday, 16 April 2021 18:01 (five years ago)

on second thought, idk why i responsed with anything other than 'once a sad, snide cunt, always a sad, snide cunt' lol.

the original leak I listen to more than the official now

xheugy eddy (D-40), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 22:02 (one year ago)

I think the vocal performances are just a lot better, rawer

xheugy eddy (D-40), Tuesday, 6 August 2024 22:02 (one year ago)

There’s an in-depth podcast series called Dissect that really illuminates the level of detail to Madvillainy. I was already a super geek of the album but I learned a lot more to it than I knew.
