Why have people not been pushing this album at me since I was born? It came in yesterday after five month's on order (fuck you EMI), and it completely blows me away.

Coil: Love's Secret Domain

brian patrick (brian patrick), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I got plenty and love the Cabs.

So Coil, Chris & Cosey, and Psychic TV are worth checking out?

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Coil seconded!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The Chris & Cosey album you might like if you like 'Hot On The Heels of Love' is called 'Songs of Love & Lust'.

Ooooh yeah, and SPK.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you like any particular type of track on the album?

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The more ambient or the broody stuf with vocals or the edgy stuff with vocals or. . . ? (Not that I'm promising I can help, but it might help someone else help you, if not me.)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I still think Heathen Earth is worth a spin if you haven't heard it. My estimate of it has dropped a lot in the last several years, but for a while it was one of my favorites, and I still think it's pretty good.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I just atypically listened to a live version of "What a Day" some time this past week.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Already got the Normal stuff and like it.

I don't know tracks so much yet as I've been listening to it in the car (display there's fucked) and at home while having sex. At the moment I can't get 'Persuasion' out of my head. 'Hot On The Heels Of Love' is great, as is 'Six Six Sixties', and the opener. Basically I like it all.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:18 (twenty-two years ago)

JaXoN (JasonD), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

So, if (when) I go to the music store today (Probably to buy the deluxe version of 'Dirty', I should order 'Love's Secret Domain' by Coil?

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I bought, traded away, and re-bought so many albums from this era it's just silly. This is one album that I bought, traded away, and will never buy again.

Sean (Sean), Friday, 27 February 2004 04:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I Say "Gift Gas" bootleg is A plus
"Shadow of The Sun" is best psyche nap rec yet

Sexy Dancer, Friday, 27 February 2004 04:25 (twenty-two years ago)

What you are looking for is Thomas Leer's Private Plane and the Robert Rental/Thomas Leer colaboration on Industrial. You also want to get ahold of Burrough's Nothing Left Here but the Recordings on Industrial Records.

You will also get a big kick out of Metamatic by John Foxx.

Also, invest in both the Re:Search Industrial Culture Handbook and the Burroughs/TG books, as well as The Wreckers of Civilization by Simon Ford.

I also like Heathen Earth and Second Annual Report a whole lot as well. I went on a big TG kick last fall.

D.O.A. is the one that woke me up to them

Okay, ordered Coil's 'LSD'. Probably receive it in '05...

Thanks all for your help. It's certainly added a few collumns to my 'stuff i gotta get' list.

Sasha (sgh), Friday, 27 February 2004 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

pursuasion! try hamburger lady & something came over me.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 27 February 2004 07:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, the fantastic 'Tyranny of the Beat' Grey Area compilation is a good way to get a taste of bands in that field.

adam, you need to come by sometime and borrow cds and records (if you had a record player).

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

we've been playing Soul Calibur 2 lately. we're not really gamers, but i sure can kick her ass.

should i buy katamari damacy? all i ever heard was noize bros talking about it.

ps. i also bought a happy hardcore cd because i was getting DDR on the brain.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I was really underwhelmed by 20 Jazz-Funk Greats at first, but it really clicked into place a few weeks ago. I'll be checking out the Cabs later.

sleep (sleep), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a gamer! yes get KD.

maybe you can still teach me TEH REAAS0N?

Poundstretcher (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

good call jason, I love those two Rhythm and Noise records

Asphodel compiled them onto one CD but they make much more sense as two seperate albums... especially Chasms Accord

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

TEH REAAS0N WON'T WORK ON MY COMPUTER ANYMORE :(.......

(many songs lost 4 eva)

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I think people should be stressing the pre-Graeme Ravell SPK here..

That compilation (SePaKu?) is absolutely amazing. Especially the track "Slo Gun", which is probably the most intense piece of music ever released from 1979 and before.

the two phases of SPK are like night and day (almost literally). I don't mind the 1983/1984 Graeme Ravell SPK, as it's pretty banging electro-techno, but anything that's since been released (i.e. the Nettwerk stuff) should be avoided.

donut debonair (donut), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but anything that's since been released (i.e. the Nettwerk stuff) should be avoided.

got to disagree here. 'zahmia lehmanni' which ended up being used as the sopundtrack to 'dead calm' contains some wonderful spk music (sounding not ulike dead can dance). 'in flagrante delicto' from that might be spk's finest moment.

stirmonster, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

23 Skidoo - Seven Songs and The Gospel Comes to New Guinea just because TG involved themselves with production on a few songs from the latter and the entirety of the former.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

20 jazz funk greats is in Fopp for a fiver -- so I have heard it for the first time and it sounds GREAT!!! (I feel like one of those 'why oh why did nobody tell me about this sooner, but they did, and I, erm, didn't hear them :-( ).

alext (alext), Thursday, 28 April 2005 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to love 'zahmia lehmanni', got to dig it out.
I'll repeat what I said a year ago, Mute's 'Grey Area' comp is really the best place to start for all this stuff (SPK, TG, Dome, Neubauten, Can, etc etc...)

Baaderonixxxorzh (Fabfunk), Thursday, 28 April 2005 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I went for it there for a fiver too.

I only got past track one so far, for some reason I remembered it from back in the day as a "jazz funk great" before the TGness kicked in.

Anyway, I'm onto CD2 of the Fall box, so it will be some time before I'm on this one...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 28 April 2005 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
.. and some time later, here we are.

I'm quite enjoying this, more than I thought I would...

I'm up to "Persuasion" now.

That is Jack Dee singing/speaking there, right?

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 09:02 (twenty years ago)

no mention of the Butthole Surfers' cover of "What a Day!" as the extended "All Day" with Daniel Johnson on some Gibbytronix?

Beta (abeta), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

eight years pass...

"Walkabout" is so lovely. And someone should score "Beachy Head" for string quartet or small orchestra, I'd pay good money to see that!
