Just listened to this tonight for the first time in a while. What an amazing song.

After I read your post, I put this album on for the first time in a while, too. If I ignore the lyrics, Quitting Time does a lot more for me than Pretty and High. I dunno.. it's something about the lusher harmonies on that song that I really like. I wish everything on the album was like that. The opening song, which is one of the worst things ever pretty much prevents me from putting this LP on more often. In fact, this is probably only the fourth time I've ever bothered playing it.

Do you know if Nurds is worth picking up?

BET YOU NEVER EXPECTED A RESPONSE, HUH?!@

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

What the hell's wrong with the first track? It's cute!

I'm partial to "The Hammond Song", but the entire album is swell and peachy keen. Can I piggyback maypang's request and ask what other Roches albums are worth a gosh darn?

Hammond Song is nice. I saw Ida cover it once, only because my girlfriend forced me to go to one of their shows. Honest.

If I hear one more person get all "I didn't mean to, I swear!" re: Ida, I'ma cracking skullz.

Speaking of: my interest in the Roches came about because of Liquorice's version of "Jill of all Trades" (which puts a severe hurtin' on the Roche version).

"Hammond Song" is my fave, but "Pretty and High" is good now that you mention it. I was more of a fan in the 80's, but I still like a fair number of individual songs.

I managed to find Nurds today at a crappy record store today. After the AMG review I was expecting something that sounded a bit more like The Raincoats. Instead, it's pretty much just more of the same kind of stuff from the first album. They still sound like barbershop trio of middle-aged women that perform at children's birthday parties.

maypang (maypang), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

until they get to "Losing True", at which point all the children begin crying and the parents run upstairs to fuck each other senseless (also while crying)

That's the new Sarah McLachlan you'll be wanting then, may.

In truth, I remember LOVING "Losing True"...

Naive Teen Idol (Naive Teen Idol), Monday, 1 March 2004 22:10 (twenty-two years ago)

it's an incredible song. insane harmonies, crippling lyrics, one of Fripp's top 10 guitar solos.

Hey I've got the first three albums and am curious where I should head next. How do later works like A Dove compare?

I'm not really seeing the connection here.

And now you know ... the REST of the story.
