Eighties pap with a smattering of Elmer Bernstein vs Eighties pap with a lovely instrumental Smiths cover and Wayne Newton!

Mick Smiley's "Magic" aside, I vote for Ferris, which actually never had an official OST released: http://www.idiotsavant.com/bueller/soundtrack.htm

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghostbusters, for the title track, for the bus boys, for the air supply song (if only as evidence as the world's single most unapologetically gushy power ballad), for mick smiley's awesomeawesomeawesome 'magic', and for the complete and utter absence of Yello.

stevie (stevie), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

you guys are insane. the She's Having A Baby soundtrack beats both.

Did that English beat song on the Ferris Bueller soundtrack (the song playing while Ferris is furiously running back home near the climactic end) ever get an official release?

Oh, and the Dream Academy's Smiths cover is sublime.

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

it says on the page I linked above that "March of the Swivelheads" was a UK b-side. for years I loved the music and that whole sequence and didn't find out what/who it was until recently.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I went through a period of being obsessed with that Mick Smiley song a while back...it's amazing how the first half of the song is really cheesy, but in the movie you only hear the supercreepy 2nd half.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 February 2004 18:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that Flowerpot Men song from Ferris Bueller...more for the jangly guitar intro than anything else, really.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Sunday, 29 February 2004 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Has the Ferris Bueller soundtrack ever made actually made? Or at least bootlegged?

donut bitch (donut), Sunday, 29 February 2004 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

vs. Lost Boys soundtrack vs. Some Kind of Wonderful Soundtrack vs. Breakfast Club soundtrack vs. ...

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ferris in a landslide.

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

"i've been arrested by you, take me in..."

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 29 February 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Ghostbusters was one of the first albums I owned, for serious. "Hot Night" is still a kickass number if you ask me.

John 2, Sunday, 29 February 2004 21:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Apart from the title track, I can't think of a single track from "Ghostbusters".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 29 February 2004 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Bobby Brown "On Our Own" > anything on the first Ghostbusters soundtrack

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

better off dead

BICICLETA EMOCIONAL!!! (Jon Williams) (ex machina), Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

What the fuck? No "Everybody Wants Some"?????????

BICICLETA EMOCIONAL!!! (Jon Williams) (ex machina), Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

is it wrong that i prefer and know better the GHOSTBUSTERS 2 soundtrack (Bobby Brown! Doug E Fresh! Run DMC!) to both of these?

yes

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 29 February 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Repo Man soundtrack...

Is the Beethoven song Ferris plays out of coughs on the soundtrack? Cause that would rule.

Sasha (sgh), Sunday, 29 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ten months pass...
March of the Swivelheads was released on vinyl, although there was a rare double CD set by 'The Beat - Beats per Minute' that did include it.

Someone also mentioned it was on a fan club album that was in limited release.

I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who's kind of obsessed with Mick Smiley's awesomeawesomeawesome 'Magic' upon hearing the entire song for the first time recently!

These are not the best soundtracks I can think of, but "Ghostbusters" gets my vote because of the title track and "In The Name Of Love" by Thompson Twins.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Monday, 30 August 2010 11:19 (fifteen years ago)

who was mick smiley, and whatever happened to him? because 'magic' is just AMAZING

Chaki doesn't have beef with unicorn (stevie), Monday, 30 August 2010 11:55 (fifteen years ago)

Mick Smiley wrote "Kiss Me Deadly", Lita Ford's biggest hit. True story.

cee-oh-tee-tee, Monday, 30 August 2010 13:53 (fifteen years ago)

This song is really good.

My sister and I bought the Ghostbusters soundtrack (cassette version!) back in the day and we were both obsessed with this song. The 12-yr old me found particularly mind-bending its last 2 minutes - sooo mysterious!

Marco Damiani, Monday, 30 August 2010 15:13 (fifteen years ago)

Are you implying I have the maturity of a 12-year old? Because you would not be far off the mark.

Haha this is great to realize others adore "Magic" as well.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 30 August 2010 17:35 (fifteen years ago)

It's pretty close to "Just One Kiss", isn't it Ned?

i like the intro a lot on "Savin the Day" it reminds me of "Wanna Be Startin' Something".

the "Main Title Theme" by Elmer Bernstein is nice too. Curb vibes.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Monday, 4 April 2016 10:43 (ten years ago)

'Magic' is one of my all-time favorite pop songs, no joke.

I am very inteligent and dicipline boy (Old Lunch), Monday, 4 April 2016 12:29 (ten years ago)

The fact that Mick Smiley is otherwise seemingly a complete musical nonentity is baffling and galling to me.

agreed!
