Beat Street OST: C/D?

AMG gives it a star and a half -- but on the other hand, it has Arthur Baker's monster bastard "Breaker's Revenge" on it. I remember the soundtrack being really great when I was seven.

I'm it's great. Everyone unfairly hates on that movie cuz it's a crappy Hollywood exploitation flick, but it's actually no where near as idiotic as most of the b-boy movies that were getting released at the time (Rappin', eeeek). And the music (and breakdancing, too, all done by the Rocksteady crew) in the movie is great (total electro/freestyle Perfect Beats style stuff.) Probably the second best non-documentary 80's hip hop film (after Wild Style.)

That's an "I'm sure it's great" up there.

"beat street, king of the beat, you see him rocking that beat from across the street .." um something else, something about "you can't let the sreet beat you!"

I used to know all the words. But apparently I forgot them. Anyway, I'd say classic for "Frantic Situation" alone, but I have the 12" so yeah that kind of obviates the need for the soudntrack I guess..

I seem to recall Breakin' had the better soundtrack, but Beat Street was the better movie.

The best rapping in "beat street" is done by the mom...

"if you don't eat your eggs, I'm gonna break your legs."

The title track is arguably Melle Mel's best work, but I can barely remember anything else. I guess putting out an all hip-hop soundtrack seemed too risky to label execs in 1984.

Ten years later, of course, they were afraid to release any movie without an all hip-hop soundtrack.

Classic: Beat Street Breakdown, Frantic Situation, This Could Be The Night, Breaker's Revenge.

Almost-classic: Baptize The Beat, Beat Street Strut

Dud: Strangers In A Strange World, Us Girls, Tu Carino/Carmen's Theme.
