Your iTunes LAN shares

Did you guys know that iTunes lets you share with other iTunes users on your own network? My roomie and I discovered this and spent the morning pawing through people's collections. We're convinced that our building is full of FAT GIRLS with Macs due to way too much:

Weezer
Saves the Day
any nu-punk band covering bad 80's songs

We're going to make his computer's share name "STOP LISTENING TO WEEZER YOU FAT PIGS".

[14:30:49] Lieutenant Panda: I got bored of the lame music on other people's computers.
[14:31:07] Lieutenant Panda: I'm sharing some of mine so that they can improve themselves.

I work in an interactive marketing agency where the creative department's iTunes shares are an ongoing competition in apparent hipness. They are also very similar to each other despite being purposefully outre.

Then there is the dude on our iTunes network with a large collection of Canadian schlock-rock (Honeymoon Suite, etc.)

This would be great if only they upgraded the computers at work to OSX.

name calling is an excellent way to induce people to change their behavior.

This would be great if only they upgraded the computers at work to OSX.

Haha, they upgraded a few months ago, but it wasn't until yesterday that I remembered that I could network. My co-worker and I promptly started listening to each other's playlists.

A half hour ago, the IT guy came up to my office and said, "Have you guys been sharing music over the network? It's eating up bandwidth."

So I said yeah, I have, okay, I'll stop. No big deal.

Then he said: "Actually, I'm not so sure it's such a good idea for you to have all those mp3s on your computer in the first place."

What?

"For legal reasons, you know."

I told him that it shouldn't be an issue, since none of my mp3s are illegal -- they're all uploaded from my own CDs.

"Yeah, I know, but you have to be careful. It's the company that would be liable."

He said I didn't have to take them off right away, and we'd talk about solutions (he doesn't have a problem with connecting an iPod or even an external hard drive to the computer, so long as the mp3s are not stored on the company's machine) -- but FUCK THAT, man.

I think he's maybe getting pressured from someone else, actually. He's always been pretty cool about it.
