Hey! I'm supposed to/hoping to interview John Darnielle from Mt. Goats on sunday for my campus alternative magazine. I want to make it a good one... so will people help me think of good/relevant questions?
Thanks!

Emily Gallagher, Monday, 1 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 1 March 2004 20:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him if he's met Kanye West.

Ask him: Replacing letters with numerals, classic or dud?

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him if he plans recording with Geir Hongro.

Rock Bastard, Monday, 1 March 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, ask him the last question, and do nothing but ask him about Geir Hongro.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

or ask him what he thinks of comparisons to TMBG

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Why do writers arrange interviews if they can't even come up with their own questions? I mean, what's the point? I think editors should just allow writers have a blank block of column inches with a byline at the bottom and a notary stamp from the artist somewhere in the middle. Like a parking validation sorta thing.

jody (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him if he thinks he'll ever write a song that's better than Cubs in Five.

maypang (maypang), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I second gygax's suggestion.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

xxpost, didn't they sort of do that to Bryan Ferry in Raygun?

Ask him to check out the questions posted on ILM on March 1st.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Hi guys!

BICICLETA EMOCIONAL!!! (Jon Williams) (ex machina), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

ask him what he thinks of Jonathan Williams' dating crises!

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him to sit down with you and read Jon's threads on ILE!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon's dilemmas now = totally incomparable to his dilemmas two years ago (which seem WAY MORE EPIC to me somehow.)

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Well Julia did steal the $20 and Krista is now a meth head! Also, EMILY WAS INVOLVED IN ALL THAT OMG!

BICICLETA EMOCIONAL!!! (Jon Williams) (ex machina), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

fuckhead, Monday, 1 March 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

dear emily,

I know. Jon tells me everything. That is why he really loves me more than even the girl in his drum class.

xoxo,
Ian

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

aww

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:40 (twenty-one years ago)

something NOT to ask him:

i brought up his former bandmate Rachel on one of tMG threads on ILM and the silence was so deafening I guess I regret asking (but she was a HUGE reason why tMG music endeared themselves to me in the first place).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

good call, thanks!

fuckhead, Monday, 1 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him if he thinks he'll ever write a song that's better than Cubs in Five.
-- maypang (pange...), March 1st, 2004.

No way. Cubs in Five is by far my least favorite Mountain Goats song. I mean, I don't mean to be obvious, but The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton, c'mon. C'mon.

David Allen (David Allen), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ask him what he thinks of the Streets

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 1 March 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean, I don't mean to be obvious, but The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton, c'mon. C'mon.

Hey, it's not as if I even listen to this stuff.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 1 March 2004 22:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ask him how much it would cost to get him to record a cover of "The Girl Is Mine" with Momus.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 1 March 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess John would be Paul.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 1 March 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

naw, Momus is the one that won't BELIEEEEVE it!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 1 March 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I just think Momus would be the type to giggle and say "Well, after loving me, she said she couldn't love another"...

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 1 March 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

good point

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 1 March 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

ask him where the mix cd's he's owed me for like two years are.

ask him why the admitting processes for higher education are so seemingly lax these days.

ask him what the hell a "campus alternative magazine" is.

ask him if his offer of a couch to crash on is still open once i get my car fixed. (tell him i will bring weird spiced rum.)

Ask him if he wants to stop by my radio show next week.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ask him about his feelings on tortoise.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

indie guilt: c/d?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Ask him why he had this thread locked. I don't think there was really a danger to his safety.

X RATED TYRONE, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

mention the name "momus." that should be enough for hours of entertainment.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

or ask him if he'd like a nice, juicy steak tartar. or a beef-burger smothered in cheesewhiz and onions.

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's at the Unitarian Church? Is that one of those shows where you get in free if you bring a head of cabbage?

x-post, amazingly.

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I went record shopping at Stormy Records today and they had a whole bunch of MG cd's and for whatever reason I never thought they were a real band. What do they even sound like?

Former Supposed So Called Nihilist Teenage Drug Disco Addiction Counselor (mjt), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

They sound great!

(More seriously, they most often sound like a feller with a higher voice singing quick, attractive and often surprising songs on acoustic geetar.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

have a long discussion about the implications of hindu practice

Emily
