John Mayer's "Clarity": C or D?

Just when I was ready to say I hate the guy he whips out his finest single yet. Gorgeous guitar riff, insistent beat that makes me wonder if this is one of the ?uestlove collabos, impressive use of trumpets - overall summertime pleasantness. His falsetto shrieks at the end don't quite work, but that just goes to remind me that this guy has cojones, he ain't afraid to do SHIT. And if you don't want to hear that your body is a wonderland than he'll go tell someone who does. Kid's got ambition. Anybody else heard this song yet?

When I hear the horns at the beginning, I always think it's going to be something else... I can't place what.

Not a bad song, but boring.

And he's got one of those voices that makes me want to just punch the radio. In capacity to raise my ire, he's second only to bearers of the Nickelback-style "post-grunge-guy" voice.

Oh! I know what the intro reminds me of: Maxwell! "Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite"!

i'm gonna post this interview one more time cause i think it's so great

Questlove talking about Mayer in such a light that i almost want to hear him. or at least some of these unreleased studio jams

JaXoN (JasonD), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually didn't think this was him at first cuz his voice seemed less pushy in the Nickelback sense. I thought it might be Jack Johnson or some new anonymous strummin' doohickey. But it's the one and only Mayer.

Mayer still seemed like a doofus in that Chapelle show jam.

Yeah, but isn't that the same interview where ?uestlove said he "doesn't believe in good music and bad music" and that he is more concerned with business than music? I'm sure I'm misquoting to some extent, but I thought it explained a lot of his recent projects. Weird interview.

anthony, there is a radio edit that eliminates the falsetto bit at the end. I actually didn't know what you were talking about until I heard a station in Illinois playing the album version.

Really? Cuz I've only heard this song on the pop radio stations!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 5 March 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

though I actually enjoyed "Bigger Than My Body" the last time I heard it and I'm seriously considering buying the album.

wtf am i supposed to like this. dear god, help me.

Chris 'The Velvet Bingo' V (Chris V), Friday, 5 March 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the radio edit exists but some stations don't have the sense to play it, I guess.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 5 March 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not complaining! I kinda like the falsetto!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 5 March 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

two weeks pass...
I loved the song. I didn't really notice Mayer until recently, but this guy has talent.
