watching 'i got mashed in 1992' on mtv dance the thought occured that my god what a great song 'take my advice' by kym sims was. i mean 'too blind to see it' was ace and all, but this follow up was considered a bit of a flop i think (top 20 for a week?)
i'm sure everyone has a favourite lost/forgoten house pop classic.

a 'rough guide' if ever one was needed.

Xray Xperiments 'Take No Chance'
Pin Up Girls 'Take Me Away'

One Tribe 'What Have You Done'
Cedric Winkelberger 'Take It Easy'

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

This is, like, my favorite genre (or at least the one that provokes the most hard-hitting nostalgia). Steve "Silk" Hurley owns it. If I had to pick one, it'd be Tene Williams' "Give Him a Love He Can Feel," even though the tempo doesn't necessarily qualify it as house.

'Aint no love (ain't no use)' - Sub Sub

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

De'Lacy - Hideaway (Deep Dish Remix)
Duke - So In Love With You
Livin' Joy - Dreamer
Gala - Freed From Desire
Ultra Naté - Free (Mood II Swing Mix)

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

...the early '90s now defined as '88 ('House Arrest') to '96 ('Hiedeaway')...

Vasquesz, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(hmm those last few tracks are kind of ignoring the "forgotten" criterion)

Siegbran (eofor), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, 'Hideaway' is '94 - but then Gala is '97.
And indeed, not exactly 'forgotten' either.

How's about "Is there anybody out there" by Bassheads though?

Vasquesz, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

new atlantic - i know

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

'Love Makes The World Go Round'! 'I'm Gonna Get You Baby'! 'I Love You Baby'!

Barima (Barima), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Atlantic Ocean: "Body in Motion" & "Music is a Passion"
Bassomatic: "Funky Love Vibrations" (even AMG seems to have forgotten this one, as well as the following LP)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Congress, "40 Miles", first dance record I ever bought, sigh.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

there is a REALLY GOOD funky US house style remix of 'Freed From Desire' that i'm trying to ID but it's proving very tough - i don't suppose anyone owns the single?

Ultra Nate 'It's Over'

Not by me. That was fab.

LondonLee (LondonLee), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The only other thing that comes to mind is Seduction -- You're My One and Only True Love. I have the single on vinyl from back in the day (and I still spin it from time to time).

Barry Bruner (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I do but there's no remixes on that one. However, Discogs is your friend.

Luv Dancing - Underground Solution
Go Go / Lies - Oval Emotion
Love Storm - Cynthia M
My Family Depends On Me - Simone

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

ah NOW we're talking - i HAD forgotten that Simone one

how about Aftershock 'Slave To The Vube' and Gloworm's 'I Lift My Cup' and 'Carry Me Home' tho?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"Carry Me Home" is awesome! I just listened to it a couple of weeks ago. Mixing gospel and house was a truly fruitful idea, those genres have much in common. Too bad this didn't out to be a full-blown subgenre, even an atheist like me would've enjoyed it.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Best ever: Crystal Waters - 100% Pure Love

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Soft House Co. - "What you need"
Bas Noir - "I'm glad you came to me"
Mixmaster - "Grand piano"
Vicky Martin - "Not gonna do it" (my personal favourite - got a proto uk garage remix on Slip 'n Slide in '97 or so, but other than that seems to have vanished)
Yazz - "Stand up for your love rights" (Beatmasters mix)

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Urban Cookie Collective - High On A Happy Vibe (in fact, all the forgotten followups to "The Key, The Secret")

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 09:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Doop - Huckleberry Jam

Siegbran (eofor), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Make My Body Rock - Jomanda
Saturday Night, Sunday Morning - T-Empo
Solid Gold - Ashley & Jackson
Motherland (A-fri-ca) - Tribal House
So Special - Blaze
Runaway - Deee-Lite
Keep On Walkin' - CeCe Peniston
Saved My Life - Lil' Louis

BOOHOOHOOIWASSOHAPPY...

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 10:04 (twenty-one years ago)

i didn't like 'Carry Me Home' - at that time i hated gospel vocals with house beats (see also Sounds Of Blackness 'Pressure', Degrees Of Motion 'Shine On' and Secret Life's 'Love So Strong' and 'Always Be' - the latter ripping Stevie Wonder's 'As')
altho 'Slave To The Vibe' was alright

Tim otm - '100% Pure Love' is Crystal Waters second best song ;)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

...and the heavily re-worked Gumbo Mix of "100% Pure Love" is also bloody marvellous. Forgotten and lost indeed...

mike t-diva (mike t-diva), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Don Pablo's Animals and their covers of 'Venus' and 'Long Train Running' - they're not very good tho really are they?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

JT & The Big Family's 'Moments In Soul' on the other hand...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Electribe 101 'Tell Me When The Fever Ended'

This is a house classic and not just a quirky gem or anything, the vocal is pretty stunning. Totally essential.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

as is 'Talking With Myself' really

but does anyone have the 'The Brits 1990' megamix as an mp3?

Bizz Nizz 'Don't Forget The Partyline'
Megabass 'Time To Make The Floor Burn'
