I just don't know.

Odi, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

where did you get this?

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Other Music.

Could be a grower.

Odi, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

many erratic and/or ecsatic live shows distilled down w/ studio stuff. Free expansive sound generated with lo-fi and analog gear as well as dub techniques, mostly pretty interesting, at times quite beautiful. Nice package as well.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i liked it and it was grower -- especially considering that usually I'm too in to what of the No-Neckers are up to individually or collectively.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never like No-Neck stuff very much, this speaks to me much more.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

what about gang gang dance?

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Gang Gang Dance is a tough one. They do different things all the time and only have released a CDR (which is pretty good). About a year or two ago, they were excellent, no when every member of the band is playing a cheap electronic drum pad, it is not so good. They are classic just for the fact that Liz and Brian look more and more like two members that got kicked out of Fleetwood Mac for doing more drugs than everybody else circa Rumours.

Mitchell (Mitchell), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

new gang gang coming out on vinyl on fusetron in a few weeks. very great. i promise. i'm in excepter so i'll refrain from saying anything else but that our new 12" on same label same time. different from KA (whoops!)...

duke jupiter, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, "ka" is the shit. especially the vocal stuff. all of the live streams from the website are interesting, too.

el sabor de gene (yournullfame), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a love/hate relationship w/ Gang Gang Dance, though I think they've gotten better, last shows I've seen have been hit or miss almost krautrocky psychedelia, minus the "songs." They have stuff available from and more coming from The Social Registry http://www.thesocialregistry.com/ as well as the aforementioned Fusetron. Personally, I'm not a fan of Liz's vocals.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm into the Excepter record and the CDR. Looking forward to more. Was surprisingly let down by all the recorded GGD i've heard so far but look forward to checking out the upcoming stuff...

Can anyone burn me a copy of the Gang Gang Dance CD-R? I want to hear it, badly!

Also, be on the lookout for my review of Excepter's KA in the near future...

Justin Farrar, Friday, 9 April 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The review of Excpeter's KA will be on dusted website.

Justin Farrar (Justin Farrar), Friday, 9 April 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought the ganggangdance cdr was on slsk?

when is their 'official' release due? It's on Social Registry, right? Gotta remember to ask Rich about that...

has anyone been to the Excepter website? There's a coupla streams of live stuff and new stuff. The bit that I heard was every bit as great as the LP. Check it out! www.excepter.com

roger adultery (roger adultery), Friday, 9 April 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Gang Gang Dance CDrs may still be available from the Social Registry website, thesocialregistry.com

I don't think there's a release date set for anything.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 9 April 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

they've yet to even record a socialregistry album to my knowledge. the fusetron release forthcoming is certainly official enough. and good.

duke covalent, Friday, 9 April 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan (H), good to see you on ILM. Been here long?

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Friday, 9 April 2004 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

duke h, Friday, 9 April 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

tread carefully through the minefield and stick around. it seems like there are more nyc music folks here lately, which is a good thing.

All Things GGD & Excepter ||| The places you go with Google.

Excpter K/A & C/D: Buy them both but better go see them and grab the CDR of all the live streams they sell from time to time. When that band is in prime form they are pretty exceptional live. Like all good music of that nature you have to squint a bit when listening to the recorded stuff but it's exceptional. The stuff is alot better than the stuff on Hisham's comp I think.

GGD || Fusetron record: That is the full on record recorded at teh same time as most of the material we put out on the CDR. Recorded by Paul (?) Oldham and another guy who's name escapes me at the moment. All the material was recorded in about 2001 or 2002 before the untimely passing of Nathan Madox.

GGD || Revival of teh Shitetst [LP!]: Spetemebr 7th. Remastered and sounding very very nice on vinyl.

GGD || God's Money [Forthcoming CD/LP]: Already about 6 hours of material commited to tape over 14 days in June/July. GGD is doing dates with White Magic in August, working through Sept. on the record and then probably spliitting for a European tour come October. Hopefuly the record will be out in the spring but no one is rushing on the process.

Anyone heard the new new Excepter? Not "Throne," which admittedly rules, but "Self Destruction" on Fuestron. Sure, they hype shit all the time, but Other Music referring to it as a house record, and more "Black Mahogany than Black Dice" interests me.

T. Weiss (Timmy), Monday, 18 July 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

haven't heard it yet, but heard it's good. i like "throne" a lot.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Only heard samples so far, and calling it a house record (even with the beats) seems kind of a stretch - but does sound interesting so far.

Dominique (dleone), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:00 (twenty years ago)

iit iis qquite nnice.

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:06 (twenty years ago)

i was surprised by the lovely nature of the most recent excepter show I saw at rothko. i really think ditching the female vocalist does them a world of wonders.

breezy, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:12 (twenty years ago)

< /backpedal>

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

I think they like Moodymann.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

ok ok point taken cutty. i don't think i'll ever be a fan of the records, but given the right atmosphere , sans female vocalist, I can get down.

were you there?

breezy, Tuesday, 19 July 2005 02:38 (twenty years ago)

the streams on their site are just awful. everything i hate about "experimental" music. if their cds sound like those mp3s, count me out. but then i never got nnck either...

Ô¿Ô (eman), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 03:01 (twenty years ago)

Cutty was "there"

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 03:03 (twenty years ago)

I like Excepter

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

the samples at othermusic sound alright actually.

i don't know what it is about those webstreams. that horrible reverb probably

Ô¿Ô (eman), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Funny enough, I was listening to the streams of the new album at work today when one of the older guys in the office comes up to ask me something and gets this baffled look on his face.

Personal antedotes aside, I rather like the new stuff but am sadenned to hear that the female vocalist isn't with the band anymore. I rather liked the dual shaman approach. I adored KA and love a good lot of Throne too.

About the streams, fantastic idea and I think once you see the band live, they become a bit more approachable. I think one of the shows I was at (Tonic w/ Ariel Pink) is featured on there now (as 21). Can anyone confirm this?

- (smile), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

A: 21 = tonic (confirmed)

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

OHHH.

that's what i get for skipping the ariel pink part of the post.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Noise Biz Cynic (sexyDancer), Thursday, 30 March 2006 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

cutty, you have heard this? I actually listened to KA today for the first time in ages, and very quickly remembered why I liked it. I don't really expect Excepter to want to repeat themselves (nor do I necessarily want them to), but I haven't been as engaged by anything as much as the KA CD.

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 30 March 2006 20:00 (nineteen years ago)

yes. i'm not prepared to weigh in on it yet, but i believe it's their most accomplished and accessible work to date.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 30 March 2006 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

"accessible" not necessarily being a bad thing.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 30 March 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

it makes me more curious. it's hard to imagine to which part of their sound I should project "accessible" - it could mean a million different things

Dominique (dleone), Thursday, 30 March 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

is it 'heavy on the beats' like the last couple of excepter records were?

I am listening to disc 2 of "Presidence" now. It kinda reminds me of the Ka era stuff, less beat-y than the last couple. I mean, it's Excepter, so the differences are probably infinitesimal. But the solo JFR track on disc 2 is awesome kosmische stuff. Actually disc II (so far) is all pretty cool, more ambient stuff.
