Winger? Slaughter? Kix? Ratt? Poison? Cinderella? Go on name the best 80s Pop Metal bands and the name of the best songs!
1) Motley Crue.

Foxy Britny, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I am somewhat uneasy calling the likes of the Crue "pop" metal, as they were not always such.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Darn it. That should be 50(or more) Best Pop Metal Bands Of The 80s?

Foxy Britny, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Crue. I'd say they reside closer to the pop side than, say, Exodus.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

2) Dokken/Ratt (tie) - If Warren DiMartini and George Lynch had ever started a guitar superband, I'd have died at age 12.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

3) Poison

jonviachicago, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

4. Warrant. "Cherry Pie" is genius of *some* sort, though I'm not sure what.

5. Queensryche.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

6) White Lion. Guitarist named "Vito" = classic.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

7. Bon Jovi. Drummer named "Tico" = classic-er.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Re: Crue. I'd say they reside closer to the pop side than, say, Exodus.

This is very true, but I just don't know if I equate tracks like "Live Wire" as necessarily pop per se. But actually, listening to some of Too Fast for Love right now, they've always been about big pop hooks, I guess. Must be my testostrometal instincts getting defensive. Who'm I kidding? They're totally pop. My apologies.

Might I also cite

8) "Gotta Let Go" by Lita Ford

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

What the flying fuck. #1 over all else -- Def goddamn Leppard.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have a Def Leppard coke mirror I won at the S.C. State Fair.
Where is the Kix coke mirror? Exactly. Def Leppard and their nine arms rule this thread

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have a Def Leppard coke mirror I won at the S.C. State Fair

God I used try to win those all the time! I forgot all about them! I had a Y&T and Ozzy Ultimate Sin mirrors.....There was this game where you popped baloons with darts....ah memories of midwestern county fair childhood.

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 17:56 (twenty-one years ago)

12. Faster Pussycat. One of the better LA bands from the period.

15. Damn -- this thread is unearthing so many repressed memories of my Chicago-suburbs youth. So now I have a vision in my head of the incomperable NITRO -- they of the four-necked guitar.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

were Nitro on Shrapnel records who always used to advertise in guitar magazines?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't believe no one has mentioned

16. L.A. Guns

yet.

maura (maura), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

17. Any Canadians remember Kick Axe? The pride of Saskatchewan. 20 years later, "Heavy Metal Shuffle" is still a pretty cool tune.

abegrand, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

18 Helix

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

were Nitro on Shrapnel records who always used to advertise in guitar magazines?

Oh man, I remember those ads in Hit Parader. They were funny, even then. That singer had the most insane hair.

abegrand, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't think they were Shrapnel, Matt...early Metal Blade, maybe?

Anyhow, here's a pic:

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

21. W.A.S.P. went kind of pop metal for a while there. The Last Command was pretty solid, though.

abegrand, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

22. Scorpions!

Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost to Donna...thank YOU for reminding me of those! Also, I just realized that I was so naive back then that it never occurred to me that those mirrors were for coke? What that what they were generally used for? I just hung them in my bedroom...they came with a little cardboard frame.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

23 Dangerous Toys
24 Sleez Beez

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 18:22 (twenty-one years ago)

pete from the street, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-one years ago)

31. Bullet Boys

shit I also got rep the Minnesota rock -- SLAVE RAIDER!

OTM. I saw them a few years ago at that weird Mill City Festival that took over downtown Minneapolis. Had to miss Jayhawks, I think (who I really do like, so it was a sacrifice) but it was totally worth it.

subgenius (subgenius), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

those old pictures are a hoot! esp. chubby "Diamond" Darrell wedged into spandex...

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 20:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Could a band get away with a song such as 'Seventeen' by Winger these days? Ditto for 'Little Girls' by Extreme. Those lyrics...

captain badass, Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't consider Van Halen to be in the same "genre" but I guess they are...

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 2 March 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

33. TRIXTER "One in a Million" (though their record came out in 1990. Although many of these bands peaked and died right before "Nevermind" came out.)

Helen, Wednesday, 3 March 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Did Kix get a genuine endorsement yet? If not, 34. KIX

The Cult, AC/DC or Judas Priest.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Jackyl. For one weekend back there, it seemed like a chainsaw was an essential part of the hair-metal toolbox.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

35. Redd Kross (if "Zira (Call Out My Name" ain't pop-metal than nothing is)..........36. The Cult (haha I know this might annoy Alex in NYC, but I heard "Fire Woman" on the radio yesterday and fuck it, POP METAL)

Anthony, don't make me dispatch a squadron of flying robotic great white sharks to destroy you for your whistleheaded blashphemy.

Oh, and AC/DC are FUCKING NOT POP METAL, GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 3 March 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed
