tell me about this band.

Really enjoyable band, very much MBV-influenced -- even more especially so than a lot of other shoegaze types that tend to come more from a Slowdive angle, say -- but there's little evidence of dance or hip-hop listening. Snarkily cited by some as an example of how you can create Shields-like sonics at a fraction of the cost. Had at least four albums, maybe five now? Vaguely drifted into a Beach Boys-influenced zone as time passed.

they're a lot less valentinesy these days, a bit more pop/psych/doomieland, really really good either way. "slipping under the shadows" 45 on earworm good starting point

Didn't they break up? And aren't they from New Jersey (always a plus)? I did like what I heard.

if they did it must have been very recently, they released a new double album on an italian label during last year.

They're not doing their own little label anymore? A pity.

welp their last three or four releases have been on labels other than Tappersize, so i guess that must be the case.

They're the first band that comes to my mind when someone says "boring opening band." I'm not sure how much of a help that is, but that's more or less the extent of my experience with them.

nine years pass...

Had a song of theirs "Round Sunday" stuck in my head for the longest time before I figured out who it was. 60's tune and harmonies, but MBV "Isn't Anything" guitars here and there (though MBV on a low production budget, which is a problem). From "My Invisible Name." I own the CD, but it's somewhere in the basement, and apparently they don't like downloads or at least I can't find it anywhere. I'm debating whether to re-buy the CD.

I played Lenola at the record store close to when I first started working there (it was in the dollar bin) and the owner runs out asking who put it on. Apparently he helped fund these guys to start Tappersize records because they had worked for him back when he had a warehouse. I had been a fan for a year or so prior so it was a funny coincidence.

The cost of the disc is basically the shipping charge. I didn't look but I assume its still online for pennies?

nine years pass...

Sad to have to share the news that Lenola's bassist Scott Colan, who did a wide variety of musical work and was by all accounts a really great person, has passed after an illness.

This did prompt me to see what is available from them online -- thankfully they have a very complete Bandcamp:

Plus a couple of clips -- per Colan's own YT channel, this was their one and only video:

And here's a half-hour show from 1999 in Atlanta:
