' 80s Song ID, and it's hurting my head

This is stupid, but I've had a lyric stuck in my head for the past two days and I can't figure out what song it is. I don't even know if I want to. I know it's from the 80s, and for some reason, It makes me think of the more poppish OMD.
The lyric - "I'll follow you, I'll follow you, I will."
I think it's something obvious, and at the time, monstrously popular, but it escapes me. I've googled the lyrics I remember and searched lyric databases. I don't even know if I even like the song, I just need some peace of mind.
Thanks.

u2 - I will follow?

Nope. It was more new romantic-y. Something John Hughes would put on a soundtrack but evidently didn't.
The other possibility is, of course, that I've hallucinated the song.

When In Rome - "The Promise"

That is, if you replace "follow" with "promise". I have a hunch this is what you're thinking of...

"I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.
And if I had to walk the world, I'd make you fall for me,
I promise you, I promise you I will."

That's it! I got the words mixed up. Thanks. Now it won't plague me.
