my friend just gave me this 45minute mix that's just labeled Larry Levan 1985a

there's a great song 30minutes into it that has a nice liveish sounding bassline, a guy singing "You don't know..." with a doubletracked sped up voice on top. they repeat this a bunch, with some ad libs, very gospel influenced. and then get into some tripped out dub effects and him saying "Electric"

any ideas.

sounds like a mix of Serious Intention - "You Don't Know"
one of New Jersey garage/electro godfather Paul Simpson's classic early projects
among the greatest dub-dance cuts ever

Also - what happened to the dub mix? These days "dub" = "instrumental" as opposed to in the 90s when it actually would be a dub...

trying to keep me up all night?

a few dub-dance for starters:
Bettye Lavette - "Doin' The Best That I Can"
Strafe - "Set It Off"
Sinnamon - "He's Gonna Take You Home (To His House)"
Funkmasters - "Love Money"
Arthur Russell - "Go Bang" and "Let's Go Swimming"
Reese - "Just Another Chance"
NYC Peech Boys "Life Is Something Special (Special mix)"

that last is a Larry Levan classic
think I did this on another thread, but ...
some other Larry Levan recommendations:
Gwen Guthrie, Larry Levan & friends - Padlock mini album feat. "Seventh Heaven" & more
Inner Life - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"
NYC Peech Boys - "Don't Make Me Wait"
Taana Gardner - "When You Touch Me", "Work That Body" & "Paradise Express"
Instant Funk - "I Got My Mind Made Up"

and if you like those there's plenty more...
check the internet for info
www.jahsonic.com is a personal fave

sorry - did you mean track mixes or dj sets?
it's pretty easy to find tribute sites with audio
not sure which sets are considered the best, though

don't forget "Can't Hide Your Love" by David Joseph & Hi Tension -- my all time fave Larry Levan remix. his take on "Pull Up to the Bumper" by Grace Jones was a definitive NYC early 80s track also.

trying to keep me up all night?

Haha no... I have all those tunes except Sinnamon tho, will check that out.

I meant Levan tracks. Yeah, you got just about all of the ones I do really like. But for instance, take Pull Up to the Bumper--I love the original, and the idea of a Larry Levan mix makes me salivate. But he doesn't really do much with it, just spreads it out...

Thanks
