totally obscure observation!!!

Is it just me, or is the start of Lio's Le Banana Split very similar to the Pirate theme song in Les Mondes Engloutis? The notes are different, but it's the same sound and rhythm.

(i'm expecting no posts on this one at all)

Mmm.

That new No Doubt song is totally stolen too. The one where the video is Gwen in the courtoom? Anyway, the 'riff' is the same as that killer house song that goes "In the night / In my dreams / I'm in love with you / Cuz you talk to me like lovers do"

and there's a song they play at work - I don't know who it is but the chorus is "Summer of love..." etc, and it's the EXACT same melody as "Captain Jack"

I realize this would be better observed on the "Moments of Musical Mimicry" thread, but I didn't want ya to get lonely here, Nairn.

Pirate theme:
bam... bam, BAM... BAM, bam... bam, BAM....
whackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhacka

Le Banana Split:

baaaaaa... BAA,baaaa...baa,baaaa...BAA,baaaa...
whackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhackawhacka

Close enough.

Wait, are you talking about their cover of that Talk Talk song?

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

No...at least I don't think so. Anyway that original song I was referring to was definitely not by Talk Talk.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It also sounds like "Barbie Girl," btw

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:40 (twenty-one years ago)

roger, the No Doubt song you are referring to is a cover of Talk Talk.

hstencil, Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

really? fuck. Well I'm only familiar with their s/t 80s hit and, of course, Spirit of Eden.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

"It's My Life" is their s/t 80s hit.

hstencil, Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:51 (twenty-one years ago)

no...wasn't the cover of The Music Machine's "Talk Talk" their s/t hit?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 4 March 2004 05:56 (twenty-one years ago)

However, the band only reached this state of grace after an ignominious start in 1981: then signed to EMI, their first LP The Party's Over gave the wrong impression, the press dubbed them 'the new Duran Duran' and when 'Talk Talk' (their first single) was released in 1982, it achieved only a mediocre Number 52 chart placing. Hollis, with Lee Harris (drums), Paul Webb (bass) and Simon Brenner (keyboards), felt misunderstood.

can't find where "It's My Life" charted but I'm positive it was a bigger hit than 52, both in the UK and the US.

dude, I think … (…@…) is onto something

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 4 March 2004 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

talk talk's 'talk talk' wasn't a cover of the music machine's 'talk talk' either, for clarity's sake.

brian badword (badwords), Thursday, 4 March 2004 07:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"In the night / In my dreams / I'm in love with you / Cuz you talk to me like lovers do"

Real McCoy, 'Another Night'?

"another night/another dream/but always you//you're like a vision of love/that seems to be true/"

oh god...

derrick (derrick), Thursday, 4 March 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow!! Who did "Vision of Love?" Cathy Denis?

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 4 March 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Talk to me like lovers do" was also a lyric in "Here comes the rain again" eurythmics...

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 4 March 2004 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Mariah Carey's first hit was titled "Vision of Love."
