1. flip through your entire FM dial, from left to right
2. ID all songs you recognize
3. briefly describe unfamiliar songs (skip stations that aren't playing music)
4. list all songs in the order that they show up
5. draw ridiculous conclusions

Clearwater, Florida 10:25 AM

- slow choral music, old-sounding, possibly Christian (song ended after 10 secongs, not ID'd by radio person)
- sprightly classical piano
- male-sung lite-rock, vaguely gospel-ish, probably Christian (hook: "I'm gonna show you love/I'm gonna give you what you never had before")
- more male Christian lite-rock, slower than the previous one, hook = "I wanna be like you"
- Toby Keith, "I Love This Bar"
- anthemic lite-rock schlock, "I finally found a reason for living/the reason is you"
- Murphy Lee feat Nelly & JD, "Wat Da Hook Gon Be"
- proggish nu-metal, surprisingly tolerable (ended after 30 seconds, band ID'd as A Perfect Circle by announcer)
- Helmet, "Unsung"
- upbeat male country, fairly catchy, ended after 30 seconds, ID'd as "Wild West Show" by Big & Rich
- Three Dog Night, "Mama Told Me Not To Come"
- 5th Dimension, "Last Night I Didn't Get To Sleep At All"
- Tom Petty, "Runnin' Down A Dream"

um, brighton of course

zappi (joni), Thursday, 4 March 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

notes:

- Country and (especially) R&B short-changed, due to talk & commercials.

- Good God, do we need that many Christian stations???

- best song: the Toby Keith one (runners-up 5th Dimension and A Perfect Circle)
worst: the "I finally found a reason for living" one

- Half of that stuff would be enough to unite ILM's popsters and indie fuxxx and techno people against a common enemy.

Patrick (Patrick), Thursday, 4 March 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

1. done
2. didn't recognise any of them
3. Hmmmm. Definitely lacking something. Very dull, immemorable, very.... quiet
4. impossible - see 2. and 3. above
5. may get better results if radio is switched on before next attempt

i am *so* pleased i live in a place where "Christian radio" is bits of Radio 2 when it's still aimed at the elderly (erm, Sundays, basically) and the odd Restricted Service licence.

i might do this tomorrow when i'm less tired. i do actually often do it anyway!
