JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently her career in France is down the tubes. Mylene is probably hoarding them for her own comeback. Which is of course a tragedy because Alizee's second album is very good, and she has two unimpeachable classic singles to her name: "J'en Ai Marre" and "Moi... Lolita".

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:28 (twenty-one years ago)

What about "J'ai Pas Vingt Ans"!? That was classic.

Nick H (Nick H), Thursday, 4 March 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

It's all about her maniacal smile in the "Gourmandises" video. Also, the girl in the red dress.

Isn't she a little young for that??

Allyzay, Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

J'ai pas vingt ans!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

"Au contre courant" was also great. Classic French pop! Too bad the French are more into Emilie Simon.

daavid (daavid), Thursday, 4 March 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
"On the night of April 28th/29th, in a hospital in Paris, Alizée gave birth to her first child. There has been no official statement yet on the little girl's name, though many papers are reporting it to be "Anny-Lee."

(name since confirmed)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 16 June 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, I'm more bemused by my head appearing on Alizee's body upthread there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:45 (twenty years ago)

You misspelled 'aroused'.

I shift gears when I see tears (deangulberry), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

Autoeroticism was not the goal.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 June 2005 05:51 (twenty years ago)

The result's still the same.

Negativa, True Believer (Sheryl Crow in a Britney costume) (Barima), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Pervertalist.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

What happened to all the alizee animated gifs?

Pashmina (Pashmina), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

They got pregnant by ODB

LeCoq (LeCoq), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Hah, only recently have I properly checked out the lyrics to "Moi... Lolita" -- I love the little easter eggs Mylène has placed there.

One thing is alluding to the artist's name (thus placing her, as opposed to merely the "I" of the song, into the near-gainsbourgian pervertalism context) by way of a truly atrocious spelling pun:

C'est pas ma faute à moi
Si j'entends tout autour de moi
"Hello, helli, t'es A"
Moi Lolita

(It's not my own fault / if I hear everywhere around me / "Hello, hellee, you're A" / Me, Lolita)

Our lyricist then proceeds to making a pretty far-fetched metaphor, in order to sneak her "signature" into the song:

Moi je m'appelle Lolita
Coléreuse et pas
Mi-coton, mi-laine

(My name is Lolita / quick-tempered and not / half cotton, half wool)

DO YOU SEE?

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Thursday, 22 December 2005 15:25 (nineteen years ago)

Everytime this thread pops up, I see that the "proper" animated Alizee .gifs are long gone, whereas the "WRONG" Ned-headed Alizee .gif (and don't get me wrong, Ned roxx & stuff, but, you know, still WRONG) is STILL THERE. This is NOT FAIR.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 22 December 2005 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, someone should fix that... (maybe with a gif of alizee's head on ned's body ?).

Apparently not.

She has a new single out in June and a new album out shortly thereafter, supposedly. Back with Mylène ast the helm, according to the blurb on wikipedia.

I spent most of this afternoon looking at songs from Mylène Farmer's Bercy 2006 performance on "Youtube", instead of working. Holy fucking shit! I wish I'd been there, it looks incredible, high points being the intro and "deshabillez-moi".

Pashmina, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

Ooooh!

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 17 May 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

Argh, sorry, I misread the blurb on wiki:

On July 7, 2006, the show Le JT de la musique on French TV channel "Europe 2 TV" reported that Alizée has separated from her former producer and song writer Mylène Farmer and is now working on her third album.

Hmm...

The new album has been out for a little while and judging from lead single it ain't all that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l56oTrfSKRc&feature=related

baaderonixx, Friday, 23 November 2007 09:11 (seventeen years ago)

Somewhat lacking in a tune :( She should have stuck with Mylène, I think.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0ZfYOqmZ2k&feature=related

^ this seems to be about the split, I can understand about 1 word in fifteen of it, though.

Pashmina, Friday, 23 November 2007 09:44 (seventeen years ago)

That's a very shitty feature. The only thing you learn i sthat she had to buy back the name "Alizée" from Mylène Farmer.

baaderonixx, Friday, 23 November 2007 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

The feature did look more than a bit glitzy and tacky, it's true.

The only thing you learn is that she had to buy back the name "Alizée" from Mylène Farmer.

Wow, that's cold. Good grief.

Pashmina, Friday, 23 November 2007 11:22 (seventeen years ago)

Whereas our very own Lolly said "fuck that!"

The new album is a severe disappointment, she really needs to work with Farmer again.

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 20:52 (seventeen years ago)

she needs to work with me

Curt1s Stephens, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 20:53 (seventeen years ago)

Well after this album, she'll likely be looking for new collaborators (and maybe a new husband since he wrote a number of the duds on the record).

Spencer Chow, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

she should start dating yelle

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 1 January 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)

Sorry, that husband comment was unwarranted - I'm just really bummed out that this album is so weak.

Apparently, Chateau Marmont produced some of the tracks.

Jibe, Tuesday, 9 March 2010 16:13 (fifteen years ago)

I must say, even though the tracks so far sound so much better than anything on the last album, I can't stand Alizee singing in English.
