The International Indie Rock Mix Project

I was reading past posts and some people mentioned here some great bands from all around the world (czech rock, especially).

Now I want to make a mix cd with bands who play indie rock from non-english speakers countries (ex: Brazil, my country). And i would like some suggestions.

I will start:

Los Hermanos - Cara Estranho (Brazil)

Elvis is Dead, Friday, 5 March 2004 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

do the songs have to be in non-english language?

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Volovan - self-titled from Mexico
(although techincally they are on a major) ...really good -- they do the Strokes-y thing but with pretty Beach Boys-y harmonies.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

i can think of another two bands from brazil:

postal blue "asleep"
brincando de deus "an evening out"

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 01:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No, but i think it would be very interesting to hear some non-english language lyrics.

but can be in english too.

spain:

los flechazos "cansado"
juniper moon "volveras"
nosotrash "hacia el sur"

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

amg review:

about Volovan: "Spanish lyrics add a little mystery for gringo audiences".

Great.

about Blumfeld: "save for the chorus of "Jet Set" ("Jet set! Jet set!! Jet set!!!"), are entirely German, but given the unintelligible babble common amongst many indie bands, this makes no difference to those who don't speak the language."

Elvis is Dead, Friday, 5 March 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

mina "kupferfarben" (germany)

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

sweden:

radio dept.
they have a record out called "lesser matters" which is really sweet.

bob hund.
everything they do is special. A fav though is the track "Det skulle vara lätt för mig att säga att jag inte hittar hem men det gör jag, tror jag" translated into english that would say something like "It would be easy for me to say I wont find my way home but I do, I think"..

Bob Gold, Friday, 5 March 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

from 'stonia:

Bizarre: "Airs of Arabia"
Metro Luminal: "Kord tuleb tuul"
Sõpruse Puiestee: "Ma olen õnnelik, et inimesed on nii ilusad ja head"

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

italy:

giardini di mirò "the soft touch of berlin guitarfalling"

(i'm not sure if they've released any italian-language stuff..)

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

greece:

2 by bukowski "grand master of the elements"

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Wales: Gorky's Zygotic Mynci 'Merched'
Datblygu 'Hollol Hollol Hollol'
Fflaps 'Y Dyn Blin'

I got a million more of 'em...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 5 March 2004 13:01 (twenty-two years ago)

'merched' is a top track!

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 5 March 2004 13:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks to all for the contributions. Some great songs, but i need more...

It would be very interesting to hear some african or korean indie rock, for example.

when it is finished, i will post the playlist and make it available on slsk.

Thanks once more.

keith m (keithmcl), Saturday, 6 March 2004 01:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Argentina

Entre Rios -"Idioma suave." 60's style girl pop vocals with electronic accents. Probably more indie pop than rock though.

Peru:

We All Together: "Tomorrow"

Ryan Pitchfork, Saturday, 6 March 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

(With slo-mo-ly abeting naive optimism I'm still hoping for (among others) Lithuanians, Latvians and Russians to show up on threads like this and start posting away enthusiastically. But this seems to never ever happen :(

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 6 March 2004 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

More Spain:

La Casa Azul - En Noches Como La De Hoy
Niza - Universo
Zola - Uno, Dos y Tres

Great.

With the Vive La Fete track, I have now 77:00 minutes of music.

Now I will study the best order for the songs, make the cd, post the playlist and make it available on slsk.
