Slipknot?

As far as whether there are a million bands in Iowa that sound like them -- well, I live in Iowa, and I don't think it's accurate to say so. There are fewer bands around here than in any place I've ever lived, though admittedly my former places-of-residence have been Chicago, Portland, and southern California, so maybe my perspective's a bit off.

Weren't the Thinking Fellers originally from Iowa City? Or at least some assemblance thereof?

"Unsainted" is their best single in ages.

really enjoyed it, feels way less (needlessly) complicated and directionless than anything from the last record

I loved the recent live album, this is pretty good but I think they're at their best when it gets musically a little weirder like toward the end here. the drumming is of course fantastic

yknow I do actually like Slipknot a lot in theory but I find basically all of their albums to be a slog, to varying degrees; I invite POXes

For a band whose entire identity and sound revolves around white suburban male rage, Slipknot sound so diluted and forced now. But that's what happens when you're in your late 40s and living comfortably. Whatshisname should stick with Stone Sour, at least that comes across as sincere.

Yeah, I couldn't make it through that track, though I hear the Panic at the Disco in the way it starts.

I saw them live once or twice and was always impressed by the musicianship and thrown off by the cartoon theatricality (sort of the exact opposite of Rammstein). Is Max Weinberg's son still playing drums?

I can't believe how good this album is. After one listen I'm ready to call it their best. The sheer amount of new sounds they've brought into play while still remaining 100% Slipknot is astonishing.

i like to think of "my pain" and "not long for this world" as two halves of one song

whenever "My Pain" comes on I picture the two drummers frowning behind their masks, heads slumped

the dual guitar action in "a liar's funeral" is so sweet

when i first heard that song i was like "oh no is this the ballad" and i got very pleasantly surprised

it kinda reminds me of mastodon tbh

fell in love with this band shortly after leaving Iowa. they kick ass. even their fuckin live album kicks ass

"duality" is such a fuckin good song though

I was out for a beer at a chill local bar (dogs allowed!) on a Sunday night, and the goober working the taps was blasting Korn and Slipnot (and spending more time managing said playlist of Korn and Slipnot than serving beer). Needless to say, it was not chill.

been going back over the older albums - I think Vol 3 is the best one before the new one, shame about the wearying production, but a great batch of songs by and large

Bizarrely BBC4 have got a documentary about Slipknot on right - like does anyone in the UK even care about Slipknot? Anyway, I doubt I've ever heard them before, but it's kind of OK, not my thing though.

I never mentioned it in the thread since he was next door at the time, but my former neighbor was in an early version of the band (up to the release that they now refer to as their “demo” I think) and he was pretty broken up when Gray died

a fair number of kids had slipknot bumper stickers on their shitty high school kid cars in the school parking lot in the mid 90s

dude was supremely talented. one of my favorite drummers of all time. i can’t believe this (except i sorta can given the severity of his health problems, but also still can’t)

This is terrible news. He had completely recovered from that MS like thing he was suffering when he left the band, no? Either way, what a loss.

i'm listening to "wait and bleed" and i never think of double-bass drum playing as a feature of nu-metal, many of those bands felt like they were retreating from the busier evolutions of metal music, but jordison's extremely funky double-bass work... yo

All the super triggered drums in this kind of stuff always sounds to me like someone drumming their hands on a tabletop.

First single/video from the new album looks and sounds super Code Orange-y to me, and/but I'm kiiiiinda into it. Need to go back and revisit the last album, see if it's still as good as I remember.

unpopular opinion, but this reminds me of stone sour.
this is not a bad thing as i love both of the 'house of gold & bones' albums.

My work laptop is set up with Bing as its home page and it's just suggesting the story "Slipknot announce the departure of keyboardist Craig Jones after 27 years" and I'm bemused to see that the story is from ... The Daily Mail.
