I'm nominating Odelia again now that they've got their web page going...although logically enough it's not loading right now.

Baby Jaymes, for sure. Yes, the album's called Ghetto Retro and he refers to himself as "the black Beck", but I expect really, really special things from him. Nice old-school Curtis stylings but with tight enough production and left-of-center beats that separate him from the blander exponents of "nu soul" or whatever it is called these days. I'm pretty excited about the album, and he also got a surprisingly nice write-up in the East Bay Express this week (Express in worth reading shocker!).

Listen to "Tricks" here!

They have 3 mp3s up there now. For fans of some of the more experimental Troubleman Unlimited bands like ABCs and Zs. Ex-members of excellent local L.A. bands Consequences and Arlo.

I think they are pretty neat.

Also: Silversun Pickups, Dengue Fever, Daedelus.

I hope you've all heard of Racebannon, because they're the best band in the world. I can only find one mp3 available online, it's a Captain Beefheart cover.

I saw them open for US Maple recently and it was realy great. The singer was dressed like Michael J Fox in the eighties with a dress shirt and tie and jeans. He was sort of a weiner too, like Michael J Fox, yet he had some sort of manic presence, He was disgruntled for sure on some Office Space or Falling Down type shit and he wanted to tell us all about it. In an entertaining fashion, no less. Also got points for dedicating their performance to whatever Mark E Smith broke. Really great guitaring too, yeah. I liked them better than US Maple.
