Academy Awards

Nobody in the known universe takes themselves as seriously as these people. You'd have thought they came up with a cure for cancer last night! Sean Penn insulted me and everyone else that voted their conscience on Prop 8. Wow! This is pretty entertaining stuff. Leave it to Hollywierd to honor this bunch. I have never been so uninspired to go to the movies in my life. I can truly say I have no desire to see any of these movies. I spent most of the evening watching Patton (with George C. Scott)on another channel and switching back and forth between that and the awards. What a contrast! Patton came out in 1970 and won 7 academy awards. Have things changed that much? Yes!

I miss John Wayne.

Outrage!
Tuesday 02-24-2009 7:45am PT
What a storm or controversy I stirred up yesterday with my comments on Sean Penn and his speech at the Oscars. First off, I would like to APOLOGIZE to anyone I offended. That was not my intention. I am not against gay people, I had a gay guy in my band for many years. I like gay people! I work with gays and have many gay friends. I am not particularly fond of Sean Penn in general, but he's got the right to get up there and express his views. That's what free speech is all about! Thank God we live in a free society where people can say what they think without fear.

In between he talks about the time he saw a UFO.

my favorite greg kihn story was in an interview w/him i read years ago where he talked about opening for chuck berry early in his career. he was all excited to meet chuck and got an ok to stop by the dressing room and say hi. so he walks in and chuck's sitting there with his pants down getting a blowjob from a young woman. greg kihn is all "uh, sorry" and backing out of the room, but chuck waves him in and is like, "hi, how ya doin'," exchanges pleasantries for a minute or two while the fellating continues uninterrupted.

I read an interview where Obama revealed some of what is on his iPod- The Rolling Stones, Al Green, a lot of classic R&B, and some rap and hip-hop. He mentioned Lil Wayne and Nas. I don’t know who either of those guys are. This morning Chris and I tried to find a minute of Lil Wayne or the Nas to play on the air and we literally couldn’t find ONE 60 SECOND SOUND BITE THAT WASN’T full of profanities- the F word, the N word, raunchy sex, your name it. We couldn’t find one section that was playable. That’s incredible. Is the president really listening to Lil Wayne? Is this what they play on the radio nowdays? Is this what our kids are listening to? Holy crap! I would advise him to steer away from the gangsta rap because it’s undignified for a president to be grooving to such thugish music. I would suggest some jazz and classical. Maybe a little Ray Charles too.

He'll live on forever thanks to "Breakup Song" appearing in "Let Me In." I've been revisiting him lately, and am kind of appalled that he has such a low profile on ilm.

His version of Springsteen's "For You" was the first I heard, and the original sounded wordy as hell after that. He needs a better, or more fleshed out thread.

Gary Phillips, who played keyboards with the Greg Kihn Band in the 80s, also played guitar on the Residents' "The Third Reich 'n' Roll" - that's got to be useful in one of those six degrees of separation games.
