For the record, like.

The Temptations- I Wish It Would Rain

Answer to this question will pretty much always be the last song I listened to.

rushomancy, Tuesday, 12 August 2014 01:42 (eleven years ago)

ultros ultros-ghali needs to post more imo, life's hard enough on ilx for an avantprogfiend without a silent brethren

(TMC isn't in my top 3 Kayo Dot songs, weirdly, but its appeal is clear & its escalation almost absurdly intense)

My answer is always Moon In June tbh, Robert Wyatt was on some frightening genius tip right then

many xposts FAO imago

I'm pretty certain you're the guy I used to talk to occasionally on DiS, just thought I should point that out at some point. My favourite bit of The Manifold Curiosity isn't even the outro it's that joyous explosion of clarinet after the acoustic part, definitely my favourite bit of music ever. It completely changed my way of thinking about music when I was younger and it's had a profound effect on me to this day, as has most of that record.

I like that Spratleys Japs album and Fanny's great but it's not quite up there with Tim Smith's main concern, and I think there are better songs on that album (namely Oh, Fear, Vine)

Dirty Boy has a good shout a being the best actual SONG ever (rather than 15 minute avantpostprogorchestralmetal odyssey) yeah?

a proclamation of tortoise intent (ultros ultros-ghali), Wednesday, 13 August 2014 01:45 (eleven years ago)

I've had Dirty Boy at number 1 at points, yeah :)

Think I had a phase with Fanny just after hearing it where the dizzy wobbly sonic structure was the most convincing approximation of the unlimited & joyous possibilities of sound I thought I'd ever heard, allied to those eye-wateringly beautiful melodies. Of course, I was dazzled and in love. You're right that Tim's main concern largely features better songwriting & is probably, on the whole, more laudation-worthy, but that song hit a spot where I was reduced beyond words

Now wondering which DiS poster you were! Narrowed it down to one beginning with B, one C and one O...
