The news that Gary Glitter has a comeback album ready? Or this hairstyle?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The fact that the big to-do about banning the album is going to generate more sales for this degenerate. (Couldn't resist the word play - many apologies.)

No, I take that back - it's the hair. Does one's sense of hair propriety go out the window as one gets on in years?

He looks like he just flew in from Oz.

(Meaning Baum's Oz, not an HBO/prison reference.)

Its a wig.

I don't know what I find more pathetic: that a New Labour MP advocates state control of the music industry (to be fair, the very Old Labour Marcus Lipton advocated such control at least twice in the 70s) or that he actually seems to think that young people will buy records by GARY GLITTER.

Depressing, sordid, horrible character that Glitter is, there are a lot of lies peddled by Stuart Maconie et al that he exposes in his tawdriness.

Robin Carmody, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Hm? I seem to be missing the context, what lies are these?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Those old Gary Glitter records were great tho. I still love hearing them and do find his current state to be sad and depressing.

From the subject line I thought it was going to be between Kung-Fu Fighting (which is a little bit frightening) and "thunderbolts and lightning" (which is, as we know, very, very frightening)

Alan Trewartha, Tuesday, 16 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I like Alan's take on the question more. Gary Glitter makes me very, very sleepy.

Robin took the words right out of my mouth. Since when are children listening to music made by struggling classic rockers grasping towards any sort of comeback anyway?

definitely the hair. although some of the old pictures of him glittered out to the max, resplendent with chest-hair cleavage and straddling a paper maché dragon are pretty bad as well. i severely doubt however that his new album will have another Rock n’ Roll part 2 though. heck, he’s creepy. i thought his first attempt at a comeback was when he worked with the KLF/Timelords.
