Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 12:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah - TMR may be 'good for you' but it doesn't have the blandness you might associate w/broccoli.

(I quite like broccoli actually but I'd never call it an exciting vegetable)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 12:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Just about anything raved about in the Utne Reader could be described as ear broccoli.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

damien rice

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:09 (twenty-two years ago)

How is broccoli bland? If anything, it has too strong a flavor. (What do they do to it in England?)

Rockist Scientist (rockistscientist), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

we boil it, it tastes 'green' and 'rooty', no distinct flavour really

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:13 (twenty-two years ago)

you have to eat broccoli RAW it tastes best that way

bob snoom, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

just steam it lightly. that keeps all its flavor in and turns it a deep green color. cook broccoli too long and all the taste goes out the window.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Usher, Jamelia

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Beatles. Good for you, but too much can make you feel sick. And the stuff that was cooked too long is bland. Raw Beatles tastes better.

dave225 (Dave225), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

(I'm serious btw, but it's prob only you/ILM broccoli, they just need more CHEESE. We have all heard r'n'b singles I think)

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I recently discovered that lightly frying brocolli along with courgette, onion, carrot, pepper and mushroom, adding a dash of sherry, boiling some rice and hardfrying this along with the vegetables, then drowning it all in soy sauce is a very pleasant combination. I would not like to put this in my ear.

My flatmate eats his ear wax.

My most recent ear brussel sprout: damien rice and travis.

Russell, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

ear broccoli = Arthur Russell!
ear spinach = hmmm... bitter, spicy, soggy ... The Fall?

SexyDancer, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

wrestling : cauliflower ear

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

To my mind, Ear Broccoli is music that's not merely "worthy" or "classic" or "admirable" in a kind of boring way, but actually has some claim to being edifying, If You Buy This Record (Your Life Would Be Better), you will be smarter, more sensitive, more holy, more moral, etc.

The supreme example of this is The Mozart Effect -- listening to complicated music is supposed to help baby's mind grow and grow and all that tommyrot. Marsalis' All Rise is another, since it is Important Because It Importantly Helps Understand Something Very Important About The Human Spirit In A Very Important Way, or whatever. In contrast, I can understand why someone would claim the Jaxx or the Fall are boringly worthy, but not edifying.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Does your flatmate like Slint, Russell?

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 19:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Sting.

(To boil all the flavour out of broccoli is the best thing to do with it in my opinion)

David Merryweather (DavidM), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)
