DJ Casper- "Cha Cha Slide"

So, this is going to #1 this week, overtaking the sales of "Toxic", which is probably the biggest populist up middle finger to the critical consensus since... well, "Ignition (Remix)" beating "No Good Advice", but that's beside the point.

Upon actually listening to the track... it's weird to call it a novelty track. It's probably the most retro track I've heard in aeons, the backing track sounds like Livin' Joy, and the vocals are 82 hip-hop. The overall result is wedding disco, sure, but... I dunno. Maybe everyone's selling this short. Or perhaps it is "Superman" for 2004. Your call.

Fuck sight better than "Follow Da Leader" by Nigel and Marvin, anyway.

Yeah, Google's just told me that... it started off as a work out routine? And he looks like this:

What the fuck? This came out when I was in high school.

Yes, OK, release schedules in the US and the UK are different, we understand. We didn't even get "Be Faithful" until, like, five months ago.

I read somewhere that they're just about to release "Angels" as a single in the US, though, a mere seven years after it came out in the UK.

I watched a group of Pembrokeshire housewives perform a routine to the original version of this in a field c.2000. I'd never heard it before but at the time I thought the production sounded c. mid 1980s vintage. This new version is damn good. Nothing wrong with a bit of the old Livin' Joy.

Yeah I think it's alright.

The up middle finger thing would've been if it had happened LAST week surely?

I was thinking that myself, but overtaking in the second week is even more impressive, no? First track to go to #1 in its second week since Bob the Builder, apparently.

Ah, but last week it also had to contend with the *other* Cha Cha Slide, by MC Jig.
