Another day, another dollar, another song. I'll try spacing these bad boys out more, so as to avoid the post-twice! extravaganzas.

At first listen I thought the bubbly Morresque music was lovely and was thankful the song's tie-in was dropped, but wished the weariness of the "I'm not gonna give you want you want" middle and this remix's mood hadn't turned the bolder original into something more passive and worn. On second listen, however, I think all that -- and replacing the anthemic, collective nature of the first with an indivdual's defiance -- makes this a more accurate and affecting anti-patriachral song. It's too bad you can't dance to it.

Starts electronically and blends over into a very soft female rap kind of thingy. Nothing amazing. The closest kind of music I love would be Neneh Cherry and there especially Homebrew. But this is lame compared to that album.

Brilliant! Takes one of the WORST, MOST ANNOYING SONGS EVER and makes it LISTENABLE! The backing of this is a much better fit for the vox than the original.. it brings out the melody and takes away the irritating smugness. Those Popcorn-esque nosies about one-and-a-half minutes in totally make it, dude.

The backing music, which reminds me of the Schneider TM's Binokular EP, exposes the weakness of the original melody. Or maybe it's that I'm not used to hearing that singing style against such cozy electronic sounds. An interesting combo, though. IDMRB is much further along than I imagined.

it's like the mellowest, cheesiest toy-town gamelan/music box stuff ever. kinda neat, but i could live without that chick with the funny name singing all up it.

your null fame, Tuesday, 16 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The backing is very cheesy and cold, but the vocals give it warmth. I like the combination a lot. I'm not sure if I've heard the original though that's everyone's talking about; the lyrics didn't seem very familiar.

I don't really like the vocalist, nor do I like the melody. The production is a C-, could easily be much better with only a few changes. As it is, the sound-choices just aren't interesting or rich enough; they've got the right idea in a way, but it sounds like they're using the presets. I wonder what Boards of Canada, around the time of Hi Scores, would do with this.

This is surprising and pretty - the quiet, candified backing suddenly turns vocalist X into a much more typical IDM singer. I like it a lot - not as much as the original, but a lot.

you can tell the people who need to get out more are those who don't recognise the vocals...

m jemmeson, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you know, this would've been much better without the slidy keyboard sounds (glissando, is it called?) and if they had munged the vocals somehow.

your null fame, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

This reminds me a lot of another song by group x (Jeez, I bet even Osama's heard the original of this!). I like it.

Kris, Wednesday, 17 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i liked this - i don't think the backing is strong enough on it's own as a track, although the instrumentation, production etc certainly is.

m jemmeson, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Obviously I have never heard any of these 'listening chamber' things. All of the selected tracks = dance music? Why is this?

the pinefox, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

All of the selected tracks = dance music

Not true.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The whole point, pinefox, is that you've hopefully not heard the track before (or maybe even not heard *of* the artist).

Um, Chamber numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, arguably 12 - none of these = 'dance music', although I might well dance to some of them if sufficiently provoked.

You do your worthy cause (cf. "Bad") more harm than good sometimes, y'know.

Jeff, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

More misunderstandings.

>>> All of the selected tracks = dance music

was a QUESTION, with a QUESTION MARK after it. That means I was ASKING whether all the tracks were dance music of one kind or another, not asserting it. I couldn't assert it cos, as I said, I have NEVER HEARD any of the tracks.

>>> The whole point, pinefox, is that you've hopefully not heard the track before (or maybe even not heard *of* the artist).

I know. I *still* haven't heard the tracks. I thought that was clear.

>>> You do your worthy cause (cf. "Bad") more harm than good sometimes, y'know.

No, I don't know. I ASKED if the chamber was all about dance music. I didn't say It's All Dance Music, or It Shouldn't Be Any Dance Music. I was seeking clarification. I was doing this cos I can't hear any of the tracks, but the responses seemed to suggest that it was all dance music, and I was wondering if this was deliberate policy or accident.

the pinefox, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ah, OK. Sorry.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's probably me who should be apologising. So, sorry pinefox. It's your economical prose style which confuses us every time.

But you really should find a way to hear these mp3s, even if not on a regular basis (internet café? a fellow IL* person makes a tape of 'em for you?). We need your opinion.

Jeff, Thursday, 18 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Er, so about 50,000 years ago this tune was posted.

The mix was by i am robot and proud. And I found it

If anyone still cares, I'll say why I chose it.
