there was a kind of a what ...samba-ish? remix of a track off 'baduizm' that i half heard while someone was nattering in my ear, in a bar last week. it was one of those bars where they wouldn't know what the song ewas even if i asked, but what might it have been? it wasn't the on + on jungle thing, it sounded new and sprightly and fun, which she rarely does on her own these days.

any guesses nu soul remix fan types?

three years pass...

errrrm, she's kind of back? anyone care? Three albums should be around within the next 18 months, the first single being 'Honey'.

She had a large feature in Texas Monthly earlier this year. She kind of came off as a bit self indulgent. The gist was that she liked to do crafty stuff, raise her kid, organize some community projects(restoring a theater ) and have her large staff of afro-hippy-chicks take of everything related to daily life. It didn't mention pot, but I bet she smokes a lot of it and isn't terribly motivated.

Worldwide Underground wasn't very good, and I don't have high hopes for these either. I think she has gotten a bit too comfortable. It is a shame, she had such a great deal of potential and released a run of undeniably brilliant singles from 1996-2000. It is hard to believe that she broke out over ten years ago. Time flies...

I dunno, Worldwide ended up the gift that kept regiving for me. None of her albums grew on me like that one did. I guess I'd still say Mama's Gun is better, but ...
