Does anyone remember a live band where the lead singer popped out his glass eye, put it in his mouth, cornea side out, and crawled around on stage?

Was this Fishwife (from San Diego?). Or another band. If not Fishwife, were they any good?

I think it was Momus.

Murry Wilson had a glass eye. This sounds like something he would do in a drunken fit right after he beat his three boys to sleep.

HAHAHAHAH.. Murry Wilson & The Glass Eye Junkies. If only... if only.

I've heard things about bizarro freakout sight-to-see Fishwife performances (AMG cites nudity, dildo ventriloquism, high-diving into a cup of Horchata), but a quick Google for both "Fishwife" and "glass eye" turns up inconclusive, so I doubt they're the ones.

Cornea Side Out would be a great band name, or something.

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 12 March 2004 07:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It was me. But it wasn't a glass eye,

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Friday, 12 March 2004 07:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Bushwick Bill? Or maybe the guy from Dr. Hook with the eyepatch? Surely not Sammy Davis Jr.?

(Just guesses - I've never heard of this incident.)

I do remember being at Reading Festival in 1978 next to a bunch of Hells Angel / biker types who were waiting for Status Quo to come on, when one of them declared that he couldn't see, removed his glass eye and held it above his head pointing towards the stage....

Does Eugene from Oxbox have a glass eye?

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

excuse me, Ox BOW

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 March 2004 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I prefer Oxbox.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 March 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, maybe, but i can't say for sure.

there's a funny story about ryan (not sure how well known this is)... he was the singer for fishwife and was a pretty crazy guy. he rode a motorcycle and got in a horrible accident and suffered amnesia. eventually, he had to relearn that he was this crazy singer for this band. apparently when gar first played him their music in his hospital bed, he said "this is terrible! i hate this!". so he eventually mended up and decided to go back into the real world and ended up staying with the band for another LP/tour (with much less wild demeanor), i think due to guilt and his reputation.

after the tour, ryan finally quit the band, and the band changed their name to tanner. gar is now the bassist in hot snakes and guitarist in beehive and the barracudas.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 12 March 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Some more crazy SD folklore.. apparently, Joel, former lead singer and guitarist of Drip Tank became a women several years ago. I really admired that and thought that was cool and took guts... ok, maybe not guts exactly, but you know what I mean.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

One woman or several?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 12 March 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)
