With regard to Forever changes v the Forever Changes concert...

(Haven't quite decided myself)

The album obviously

(both are albums)

Oh right, I thought you meant the concert, which I was at and have no desire to hear an album of - tho I loved the concert

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 12 March 2004 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it should be a tap in for the original, but I heared the live version of "We're all freedom and we want our normal" and thought, heck it sounds the same as the album but it lives and breathes..."

So I bought it. And it's fine.

I went to the VU reunion, and loved the gig but listening back, realised actually it was not so great. But the Forever Changes concert CD survived, and is good without goodwill holding it up.

Well, note-for-note archaeological reconstructions are fun to experience in concert but I'm not convinced they are worth listening to later on. The thing about the VU reunion gigs is that they tried to do different things with the songs - didn't usually work but what the hey.

I'd agree normally, but I think it was amazing to think, Arthur Lee still has the same singing voice. And is not too stuck up to use it. Lou Reed kinda 'snored' through Venus in Furs and Rock and Roll, but on "Guess I'm Falling in Love" he did it straight, as it was pretty obvious he hadn;t sung it for 20 years or so...

Shameless plug for my AMG review of the Forever Changes Concert.

Hey, we don't allow any AMG review plugging around here. Er, wait.

one year passes...
And now, Arthur Lee has been given the push!

On some other thread, I recounted how I got Broadband, and went to the benicassim site to watch the "love" set, and was horrified by how stoned/pissed/whatever, AL was. A little through the set, it was made clear that Arthur Lee had only just found out that Rick James had died, and was very upset. But then, if that was not a one-off, how sad is this?

Well, I like getting drunk, esp if I have to go play live or something scary like that.

Yes, but do you sing "Alone again or" by going "Yeah.... ummmmm it's umm alright..... you know I won't ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm "

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 5 September 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

Well, no. Esp not if I wanna get a few sales out of whatever I'm doing. I really don't watch these things, people who haven't grown out of rock shit (y'know who has? Paul McC. Who's happier than him? Fuckin no-one. Shut up.) are really awfully sad to watch.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 September 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

Well, this isn't one of the two albums you mentioned, but I really love the Love album "Four Sail". It's so rockin' and good.

Personally, I like it better than "Forever Changes". Check it out.

I just did a tour playing w/ Sean Bonniwell from the Music Machine last year. He was fricking amazing doing his old songs and it was a lot of fun all around. "People who haven't grown out of rock shit," my butt.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

He got drunk and posed around did he?

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

DId you notice I was nice about Paul btw?

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

"He got drunk and posed around did he?"

"Posing?" No. One does not pose when playing the Music Machine's oeuvre. It is the real business. Did he wear the black glove? Hell yes he did.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 5 September 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

I would've found that pretty depressing. I find walking kinda depressing, tho.
