Inspired also by a night of heavy drinking.

Jeremy (Jeremy), Saturday, 13 March 2004 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha, I saw the Dropkick Murphys a couple of weeks ago. That was enough to drive me to drink.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 13 March 2004 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Any Pogues.
Replacements' "Let it Be."

Jazzbo (jmcgaw), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

First one who says "Tubthumping" gets their tub thumped.

oops (Oops), Saturday, 13 March 2004 13:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Bourbon & Division", "Drunkard's Lament", "Balalaika", "When I Burn This Place Down" and about three dozen more by Firewater

"Hung Again" by Cop Shoot Cop

"One by One" by Gutterball

"Some Fool's Mess" by Gallon Drunk

"More Beer" by FEAR

"Sick Bed of Cucullhan (sp?)" by the Pogues. Hell, everything by the Pogues.

Actually, the last time I was allowed off my leash for a night of irresponsible drinking, two friends of mine and I ended up in some shitty East Village bar shouting along with "You Know My Name, Look Up the Number" by ye olde Beatles, and it was most fulfilling.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 13 March 2004 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I would say anything by the Dirty Three, but especially 'Horse Stories' which always reminded me of being drunk off my ass in some Bohemian village, wearing one of those long leather raincoats and falling about in the mud (not that I've done this, I'm afraid, but there's still time).

radio morocco (radio morocco), Saturday, 13 March 2004 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

dammit CMT has done a list of the 100 top country drinking songs ever, if you guys didn't hate on this stuff I'd link it for ye

Best Elvis Costello drinking song: "The Big Light" even though it's about hangovers and facing up to one's misdeeds, still great for beer

Best Adam and the Ants drinking song: "Los Rancheros" because if you drink every time they say when they say "Clint" and stop when they say "Eastwood" and repeat this you will get messed up. This also works with "Roxanne" and "put out the red light" as I discovered over and over in college.

Spirit of the West - Home For A Rest beats all mentioned so far.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 13 March 2004 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ween's "The Blarney Stone" is, without a doubt, THE GREATEST DRINKING SONG OF ALL TIME!!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Saturday, 13 March 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

"What's the Use in Getting Sober if You're Going to Get Drunk Again?" by Joe Jackson

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 13 March 2004 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by J.L. Hooker

oops (Oops), Saturday, 13 March 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i love having the first of what i know will be many drinks to beck - beer can, mostly because of the first line of the lyrics
alcohol on my hands i got plans / to ditch myself and get outside
one of those times where beck's jabber produces a little gem of contextless profundity.
and because it's just a fun song, YA KNOW?

j. pantsman (jpantsman), Saturday, 13 March 2004 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

but jesus stop it before you get to steal my body home. no good for drinking.

j. pantsman (jpantsman), Saturday, 13 March 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Alex OTM re: "Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn". But I'll always have a personal nostalgic spot for the cassette that was playing (nonstop) the first time I got truly pissed, "Born In the USA", irrelevent though it is.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Saturday, 13 March 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

The selection of "Braineaters" at the top of this thread is great. I always imagined that song being sung by drunken zombies in a beer hall waving around blood-filled mugs made from human skulls.

AC/DC- "Have a Drink On Me"

Will (will), Sunday, 14 March 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

"I drink a whisky drink,
I drink a wodka drink,
And when I have to pee,
I use the kitchen sick"

For me it's the Fall or Laibach, or the Burning Ambitions comp, but then that's probably why no one will drink with me.

AC/DC. The Doors. The Stones' "Ruby Tuesday" - that's not drinking, that's DRUNK.

Anything at all by Nick Cave: The very voicebox of liquor.

Blues. Period.
And let's not forget "Auld Lang Syne", immediately followed by "Celebration" by Kool & the Gang.

Stephen Stockwell (Stephen Stockwell), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, "The Blarney Stone" rules.

Tex Ritter -- Rye Whiskey
Lonnie Johnson -- Juice Headed Baby
New Model Army -- The Mermaid
