Jedmond (Jedmond), Sunday, 14 March 2004 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah. Now that is sweet, it is.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 04:14 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny too. He's funny that Sasha. I dig the funny.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 14 March 2004 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I just got off on how good a writer he is. Dang.

otto, Sunday, 14 March 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Sasha sucks.

Sasha (sgh), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Was he always so funny? i can't remember. funny is very becoming on him.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Much as I only ever read him when someone links him on here, SFJ is awesome and about the only 'music writer' I really, really like.

Sick Nouthall (Nick Southall), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Critics also file Tim away by loving grime, which is drum'n'bass all over again: one fantastic rhythm idea that will run out of steam long before the faithful admit it. We'll get killer compilations and good fruit juice commercials before Dizzee gets a TV gig and his buddies discover Sting. More than likely, we'll yearn for the golden summer of 2003 when pigs were hitting the Quonset hut with contact mics attached to their cousins' balls.

????? Fruit juice commercials? erm....

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Has he actually heard any grime?

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't hear enough new music to really understand this, but I confess, I like Emmit Rhodes more then Paul Mcartney!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

emmit rhodes never wrote a song like helter skelter though, so i'll still have to go with sir.paul.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ignoring the point here: Timbaland has ruled the charts for so long now that critics are avid to see him knocked from his perch and Sasha's right on point.

Timbo is THE most influential and original producer of the last eight years, bar none, and it's sad that people have to keep being reminded.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I?

'Timbaland' appeaars to be a misspelled clothing label. What's going on?

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I have so little to say about this I've already said too much.

Huck, Monday, 15 March 2004 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

aging writer in protesting too much over debasement of last thing to really light his ass on fire shoczzzzzz

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:34 (twenty-two years ago)

don't get me wrong, i like sasha, but somehow i dont't think he would have been writing this about marley marl back in the day.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:35 (twenty-two years ago)

also whatever bonus points he gets for calling out recent rap's homophobia/misogyny/racism in print gets deducted for typical nyc rap-fan jingoism

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i full expect/accept this will happen to me too (the old man thing, not the jingoism thing) (though i can be guilty of that too), but it hasnt yet, thank god, which allows me to still be able to point and laugh.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, aren't you an old man?

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You've got the cranky heart of an old man, jess. You are halfway-there. But in a good way!

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i think if you cut me open there would be many rings, like an old tree.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "i danced all night" = "i am still down with the kids"

when i wake up tomorrow feeling like i was in a car accident, i'll know better.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I'm confused.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:50 (twenty-two years ago)

do you need a diagram?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

venn, please.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"overlap" is a funny word, no?

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I think i just liked that piece cuz it was funny. I don't think i even care if he's right. I like that Timbaland album though. It's a lot of fun. And i even like all the songs where Timbaland talks endlessly about all the people who say he has lost it.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

no it's a well written piece from a "is funny, yes?" standpoint.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i always know a writer is a great writer when they come this close to making me buy something i know to be bullshit.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

"buy" = "believe", but also actually "purchase" i guess now that i think about it.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I hope that works out well for you.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:32 (twenty-two years ago)

"Perhaps it means "The fact of Tim's creative streak is so surprising that simply thinking about it made me fall off my bicycle on the way to the assnasium today."" hahahahaha

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I like this sort of thing better than I like critics who are super quick to dismiss an artist/genre because of a certain amount of stasis/ennui.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I admire faithfulness in any form or context

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 15 March 2004 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Al-Qaida? Jerry Falwell? Hitler? Pol Pot?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

No wait those guys suck

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 15 March 2004 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

looks like someone forgot about dre

gareth (gareth), Monday, 15 March 2004 08:00 (twenty-two years ago)

its okay to say dre fell off because then timbaland came along. err wait...

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)
