Cash Money's Young Turk is speaking out from behind bars, professing his innocence in the charges that he shot two police investigators during a drug raid last week.

"Shooting a police I'm not with that," Tab 'Turk' Virgil Jr told exclusively to Memphis Tennessese's News Channel 3. "I'm against that. I've never shot a police. I've never owned a gun, never seen a gun."

According to Shelby County detectives, Turk opened fire on deputies during a drug raid at a Memphis apartment on January 26th. The 22-year-old rapper was one of three people inside the apartment when the officers approached the front door and announced their presence, Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell said. Luttrell said the officers immediately came under fire and two deputies were wounded.

Turk vehemently denies he fired a gun, saying he was the victim fired upon by the police.

"Only thing I hear was boom and bam and gun shots," Turk testifies. "I hear boom, boom, I get into the closet, I'm scared praying. "I hear boom you know I don't hear any police say knock knock."

Turk, who is now being charged with first degree attempted murder, says he was threatened by the police and never explained why he was under arrest.

"They called me, they called me out. And they wanted to beat me," says Virgil. "That's it, I never saw a search warrant, I never know what I was being arrested for."

News Channel 3 obtained a copy of the search warrant. Deputies believe there was a boat load of drugs in the Southeast Memphis apartment Virgil was staying at. Investigators say they found marijuana and another unknown substance.

Turk says he came to Memphis to escape the drugs, calling it his personal rehab. However, investigators say they recovered drug paraphernalia covered with heroin residue and marijuana at the apartment.

Turk will return to court on February 18th to answer to the charges.

I don't have a lot to contribute except to note that the increasing incidence of Ca$h Money threads is making me love ILM again.

As I say all the time there is a really fucking great book just waiting to be written about NO rap, especially re: CMR and Baby. Baby is a very interesting character but I'm not sure I'd want to be the guy that writes the expose, you know? I have no idea what percentage of Baby-related rumors are true but I suspect there's a reason interviews with him never go deeper than rims and teeth.

There was a show the other week with both Juve and UNLV on the bill: this mystifies me.

Also if I remember correctly Prolapse put out records on Jetset, perhaps the single most obnoxious record label of the 90s (didn't they put out like a Firewater record or something? Kill them)--so the less re: them the better so's to let CMR discussion shine through.

Turk may have the best verse in "I Need a Hot Girl."

Because he just comes in going all over the beat, sort of coming close to rapping along with it but sort of against it, trading a verse with Lil Wayne who brings it back into check (because I think he's really the only person who can always keep up with the MF beats) before Turk comes and makes it all weird again, almost toasting during the give me a gangsta ho bit. Good god I love that fucking song.
