I'm Going To See The Rapture on the 31st.
What Should I Expect?

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Disappointment. Wasn't wowed by their Chicago show a few months back.

m.e.a. (m.e.a.), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I really enjoyed their show when I saw them last summer. They'll play most if not all of Echoes, but some songs will have different arrangments. They have a sax guy live, so that changes things a bit.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

They do? Didn't see one last May, so maybe he's new. I liked that show, in any event.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

the sax player is in the picture on the back of echoes.

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

and the BRMC are opening.
i saw them on HBO's Reverb it looked pretty boring

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

and the BRMC are opening.

That's about where they belong.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

expect fun fun fun, they show do good

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

expect it to last about 2o minutes.

cybele (cybele), Sunday, 14 March 2004 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

a good opening band and a somewhat lackluster headliner...

ken taylrr, Monday, 15 March 2004 00:03 (twenty-two years ago)

cybele you didn't like the montreal show? i thought it was great! (and full-show-length too)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The Rapture...I love that movie! It goes places no other movie dares to go! Oh, wait a minute...

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're going to see the Rapture, it's probably going to be a lot better if you like to dance/move while the show is going. The physical element of their show is key.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Play count the plagiaries! Bring drugs! Talk during the whole show! Leave during the encore to avoid the coat check line!

SexyDancer, Monday, 15 March 2004 00:28 (twenty-two years ago)

matthew is otm--i was up front & dancing and had a great time (also was drunk)

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

OTM, Matthew. Get up front and move.

Alex Pittman (Alex Pittman), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll third it: you have to move. I've seen them twice: the first time with an audience that took a while to catch on, and the second with a crowd standing at about the same level as the band. Proximity is key.

I'm guessing this thread is drowning in snarkiness because of their prevalence on ilx during the past millenia, but it really is an enjoyable show. Also, there's sax on the album but it's much more subdued.

mike h. (mike h.), Monday, 15 March 2004 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It does lack a certain something when you can't move, but it's still mondo good shit.

Barima (Barima), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

My best memory of the Rapture show that I saw was when they played "House Of Jealous Lovers" everyone in the front was moving and shouting along to the "HOUSE OF!!!! JEALOUS LOVAHS!" parts.

Matthew Perpetua (Matthew Perpetua), Monday, 15 March 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a great time when they played with Casiotone for the Painfully Alone at the Black Cat last December. Looking forward to the Towson show.

and the BRMC are opening.

Are you sure the Rapture aren't opening for BRMC? The way it's listed here makes it seem like BRMC are the headliners. I hope not.

lou (lou), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

they are playing tonight at the fillmore in SF, but not tomorrow with the yeah yeah yeahs. i will probably be going to both.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 15 March 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

el rapture and brmc are co-headlining the tour. so officially, nobody's supporting anyone. Maybe they'll switch off who goes last?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 00:10 (twenty-two years ago)

They Switch Headliners Halfway through the tour

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
Saw the show last night @ The Roseland Ballroom
It was pretty damn awesome.
First was the opening band Starlight Disaster or something like that. They were really good
After That BRMC came on and it they started off boring but as they went on they got better.
Than The Rapture Came out And Kicked Ass. They Started with a new song that was really good and the Saxaphone player was doing some great dances. After the new song they went into "Out of the races and onto" the tracks but there was something wrong with the guys guitar so a tech guy or whatever you wanna call him came out and fixed it. After that they played most of the songs from Echoes. I Was About 3 feet away from the stage and got a nice little high five from the singer when he dove into the crowd during "Open up your Heart". I Took Some Pictures but i don't know how to post pictures.
So Anyway I Would Have to Say I Had A Wonderful Time

Dude (The Yellow Dart), Thursday, 1 April 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)
