I mean seriously, what a fucking mix!

Highlights? Lowlights?

Delighted to see Erol Alkan is playing out Le Dust Sucker now. The last 3 tracks are just insanely good, the penultimate one is easily the best tech record I've ever heard.

I mean seriously, what a fucking mix!

Agreed. One of my fave albums from last year, but did I vote for the damn thing in Pazz and Jop? I can't remember!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

"Mandate My Ass" has been added to the playlist on JJJ - our cruddy national youth radio network. This is bizarre and amazing.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the way it really is a German interpretation of French house, even when it goes French it still sounds German really!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

It's great. Does anyone else like it more than "Friends"?

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

The whole thing is grebt, but the last three tracks are total stormers yes. On one occasion last year I got so caught up in it while listening on headphones at work that I inadevertantly sang 'MANDATE MY ASS' out loud to my coworkers.

Ricardo (RickyT), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan you really need to hear John Spring's "Do You Like That?"!!!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:58 (twenty-two years ago)

And Princess Him's "Gone"!!!!

German House trying to be French House = best thing ever!!!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Call me a heretic, but I like Lick Lick better than Mandate My Ass

Xii (Xii), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't heard "Lick Lick" - what's it like? I prefer "Love Me" to "Mandate My Ass" ever so slightly.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that track by Princess Him called "Gone Funkstar"?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:35 (twenty-two years ago)

The riff on "Love Me" is a monster.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:37 (twenty-two years ago)

No "Funkstar" is another track on the album. Which is really good even when it threatens to go a bit Kosheen-y. Search "Gone", "Not Rock", "Even Though" and "Funkstar". But "Gone" first and foremost.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:39 (twenty-two years ago)

bah I just downloaded one called "gone funkstar" oddly. can't find john spring but I'll keep looking!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

They're consecutive on the album so maybe it's both tracks.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 00:40 (twenty-two years ago)

i will always always always associate this mix with a train ride i took from salzburg to vienna last summer. classic all the way, a case study in momentum.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh hey that John Spring track is great, it's a little bit breakbeat isn't it? "Sssh Ronan"

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

(almost like mr velcro fastener aswell actually)

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It's funny isn't it because it's totally 4/4 but it sounds *so* off kilter that it could be breakbeat.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Did Mr. Velcro Fastener do that song about computers? I *love* that song!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:12 (twenty-two years ago)

no question but that this album is completely awesome, good call Ronan

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the Anders Illar track - so goth!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. I relistened to the album again earlier today and nothing jumped out at me as goth or anything else. In fact, it's so seamless a mix (exception might be the shift between tracks 6 and 7) that nothing jumps out, to its credit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned I'm talking about the creepy piano track.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Hm. Guess I'll have to listen to it again!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah that computer one is Mr Velcro Fastener!

I like driving with the really minimal track circa 4 or 5 that has that really compressed bass noise, it makes the windows and mirrors whirr along nicely!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 15 March 2004 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I love that Mr Velcro Fastener song - it's so homorobotic!

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 00:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I actually really dig the whole album a lot but especially love the first few tracks of intro. The mixing of Dntel and then that Kaito w/accapela vocal is sublime. Also the Le Dust Sucker of course the track that is on Fabric 13 is killer too.

hector (hector), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 02:11 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
What the hell went wrong with the mastering on this btw?
Rush job, last minute track changes?

The volume dips I knew about already but I just (finally) get myself a vaguely decent hi-fi setup and... good lord, does anyone else hear the vinyl popping & scratching all over the Kaito track?? Either that or it's from Erland Oyes mic vocal input over the top.

Or maybe it's something I've never noticed (and now will on other mixes) due to a clear-sounding system. Either way, weird.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:08 (twenty years ago)

while this is bumped... it's still such a fantastic record to wake up with.

fandango (fandango), Monday, 22 August 2005 07:16 (twenty years ago)

eight months pass...

Courtney, Thursday, 11 May 2006 04:08 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 11 May 2006 04:11 (nineteen years ago)

Did someone just blow off?

Great album though.
