Somebody get psyched with me!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Sunday, 14 March 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I'm psyched with you. But my c/c balance looks *PITIFUL* so I won't be ordering it for a few weeks...
That last one was good, wasn't it?

jwd, Monday, 15 March 2004 02:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks a lot for the warning Roger! I am PSYCHED.

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 15 March 2004 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh Ok so it's really available NOW? Cos they aren't saying anything on the website, but I want to get my record guy on to this really quick, so should I do it NOW? He won't do another DC order for a WHILE, prob, so I don't want to miss it

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 22 March 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm still totally psyched btw

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Monday, 22 March 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Bah. Sour grapes, etc.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Too expensive!

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

...unless I'm missing some reason for it (?). I didn't hear or see the first one.

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

his weirdest record since Twin Infinitives. Or ever.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

are you talking about the 2nd one, Section Two? Whose the woman who sings lead vocal on two of the songs?

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 15 April 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no idea. I'm still trying to figure out exactly HOW i feel about "Rock A Doodle Doo"

The William Truckaway cover is a nice touch though.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you saying that the second one has come out? I thought the first one was the best thing he ever did.

sammy, Thursday, 15 April 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yes sammy its out

I agree the first one was fantastic tho many ILMers didn't agree (check the archives). This one isn't nearly as enjoyable, three listens in. I'm a shameless unconditional Hagerty fan, so i definitely like aspects of this record, but overall, not his finest hour.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

So, what's the deal with it in terms of the compositions, instrumental playing/instrumentation, etc.?

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 15 April 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
I don't know, I just got it a couple of hours ago. It looks nice, anyway. Vaguely fearing actually playing the thing

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Uh the first song's a perfectly nice if pissedoff rock song, I'm now on to the first (v pretty) cover, kinda not seeing how this is harder than "Hand of Glory" yet if it's meant to be anyway

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking hell this is GREAT

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Third song, obv. Also it has a really funny matrix etching "1/500", my heart pranced about for like a second. Roger A to thread man

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 11:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Track four, while good, has a kbd tone that actually hurts my ears. Thumbs up, say I

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't get this puzzlement, I mean all the NMH tracks have riffs and singing, it's great!

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 3 June 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm beginning to doubt yr commitment to riffs and singing

Mr Mime (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 June 2004 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

six years pass...

So, Victory Chimp - The Audiobook. Pardon the hyperbole, but pretty much the greatest thing ever. Anyone else heard this yet?

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 1 June 2011 18:37 (fourteen years ago)

wow, i didn't realise it was out yet. i've been following his (so insanely diverse in tone) blog posts to keep track of it; it sounds like it's a fully produced & soundtracked radio-play kinda deal, right?

the blog mentions that they're RECORDING again around now, which is great. i miss three-lps-a-year hex.

stately, plump bunk moreland (schlump), Wednesday, 1 June 2011 21:17 (fourteen years ago)

It !eaked. Couldn't wait, had to download it (pre-ordered it too - you can pre-order from the Drag City site now). It's long, I'm about 2/3 through it now, but yeah, it's a straight up radio play. Repeated themes, jingles, sound effects, the works. I think familiarity with the book helps, some may find it a bit...inscrutable otherwise. But it's pretty damn amazing. For a guy who occasionally gets accused of sorta flippantly tossing shit off, he clearly put a lot of work into this.

Nobody? This is a work of genius!

I finally broke down and shelled out the johnny-come-lately bucks for the 1st limited LP. I have the other two and the CD versions are a truncated joke.
