talib kweli ft. mary j blige - i tried

yeah! yeah! new talib kweli-- you know what it is. come one! la la la la lalalala-- probably the first single, with what i imagine is the basic talib kweli sort of content and he raps all squeezed up and fast and it sounds a bit like get by and it's really sweet and sounds very old, with a kanye west beat and really watery mary j blige hook and lalalalala thing and she gets a bit to sing at the end and the end part is the only part that actually sounds like her at all. talib has trouble getting on planes because he's got an arab name and he has trouble with the industry because he doesn't keep it real, he just bes himself and he's troubled by the fame like kurt cobain and is also troubled by world events, such as stockbrokers shooting their children and jumping in front of trains-- but life is a beautiful struggle and people search through the rubble for a suitable hustle and he's going to go on. i think everyone will really love it.

i'll put a picture of him at the end.

even better are HOLD YOUR HANDS UP HIGH ft. jean grae and ALL THE LONELY PEOPLE.

are these real new tracks from his album?? i'm kinda surprised they are out there in good quality so soon!

apparently the album (or most of it) did leak and Kweli is mad pissed. I've always checked for him way more than Mos, and Quality wasn't as good as it could've been but I can't wait to hear this stuff.

Talib should chill, as i learned from the rjd2 board, when you download an album for free, in advance, you are doing them a favor! you're like promoting them!

i didn't like quality too much, but "Good To You" is one of my favorite songs ever. whenever i'm feeling down i say to myself "yeah i'm positive, i'm positive i'm the best"

yeah I was wondering about that, I wouldn't be surprised if they can't get it cleared/don't want to pony up the royalties and the song doesn't make the album.

I haven't gotten the Beautiful mixtape yet, but I've found a few individual tracks from the new Kweli scattered on other mixtapes..."I Tried" is disappointing, especially if it is in fact the lead single. on "The Ghetto" f/ Common he does a cute flip on "Moment of Clarity" - "if lyrics sold then truth be told, I'd probably be just as rich and famous as Jay-Z, truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense, next best thing I do a record with Common Sense", etc. not bad but I'm not really feeling it, I kinda hope the bootlegging motivates Kweli to go back and do some more songs and maybe come harder.

When will Talib live up to his potential?

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That moment of clarity line really puts my teeth on edge.

Sym (shmuel), Sunday, 4 April 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I still really like the Reflection Eternal album.

manfiesto: what we want to see happening. fake dirty dirty style raps! i'm not sure what more talib has in potential really. but this thread title tho i havent heard the song in q has reminded me of my fave line ever i think! its on the blackstar rmx of mary j's beatiful and talib's asserting his luv for a girl and he sez she's "DO-ABLE LIKE ART"!! i dont think he meant it like how i like it but haha still

prima fassy (mwah), Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the kanye problem is that conscious heads will think they r all right and the world finally caught up and not that he's hot and the world enjoys getting mugged

prima fassy (mwah), Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't understand how art is do-able?

the new talib/killer mike song is pretty good. i'm hope it's from the album and not just a mixtape thing.

William Wiggins, Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(that 2nd thing is also why i have decided i love the 'she wants to move' rmx)

its doable. you can do it. like "i did an art today". i like that

prima fassy (mwah), Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Prima I was thinking that the other day too - how it's possible lotsa people will think that Kanye West/N.E.R.D. etc. is like street/pop rap forfeiting the game to the consciousness/"good quality" contingent.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 4 April 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

9th wonder too. bringing def jux and rocafella together.

scissors (Honda), Sunday, 4 April 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

yah i know i'm pushing it a bit with nerd but i'd like to think with that rmx pharrell's beady eyed insincerity highlights the fashionable aspect of current consciousness, like mos def has always been the fake sleeping jay-z giant of tru skool and while kanye nods at tribe called quest golden age by doing 'electric relaxation 03' and having consequence along for the ride nerd go high street and get q-tip! haha even conscious dudes dont dare wanna hear q-tip anymore! i feel like getting jigga unplugged out again now
