This bugged me for years, this opening line of E=MC2 Big Audio Dynamite...

1) did he read an interview with this person?
2) Vaguely acquainted? but then he'd have met them.

Then I thought, theres loads of people here I've never met but in a way I know. But the internet wasn't going, back in 1985 or whatever. not as big anyway. Then I thought, he must mean a penfriend. Bless.

I think he was being poetic like.

it's about god, innit?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

What if Mick Jones was one of us?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

do-de-do-de-do-de-do

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Huh?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a great record though. There's something really naff about BAD in general but that one single is terrific.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

did they do "groovy train"?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

no wait that was the farm

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

us radio played a lot of this crap 89-92

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

NAFF would have been a better name than BAD - what would have stood for however? New Audio Freedom Fighters or some such crap.

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

To dig Nicholas Roeg's films is to know him, in a way, I guess.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

yes, but according to the record, the person didn;t think you could get so much from a picture show. (Nic Roeg's done OK from it...)

totally. Isn't this whole song about "Performance"? Having said that, I love "E=MC2"; therefore, I should be shot.

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i love "innocent child" by big audio dynamite II. therefore, i should probably be imprisoned indefinitely in guantanamo bay.

fact checking cuz (fcc), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd always assumed Jones meant that he was a big fan/admirer of this person (I'd always assumed a famous director) and had followed his career in print (hence "in a way knowing" him).

I can't hear the name, Big Audio Dynamite, without thinking of a quote from a friend of mine. He taped B.A.D's first album, This Is Big Audio Dynamite, over a recording of some other album. "In retrospect," he said, "that was a Big Audio Mistake!"

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

... ha ha, I think they belong in a Big Audio Dustbin personally

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Hadn't realized it was uncool to dig BAD. Well, color me uncool yet again.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's hip to be uncool

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I like select portions of the B.A.D. catalog.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

that's a good way to put it. F'rinstance, "Rush" is by the side project NAFF, while "The Bottom Line" is allowed in the BAD canon

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

"Rush" is BAD 2, for what it's worth.

"Looking for a Song" is Big Audio...

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 16 March 2004 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
fuck it. i dont care about the hate. BAD released some fine records in some seriously crap sleeves - hence a lot of the reason for the associated Naffness admittedly.
i would even go so far as to say that their unreleased album 'entering a new ride' was back on track, with Ranking Roger adding his vocal styles all over the right places ..
anyway .. having spun The Globe/Entering todays lots along with some of the recent Sputnik sounds i have realised i need to hear some of these :
http://www.carbonsiliconinc.com/discography/discography.aspx
anybody got these ? i heard a crappy lo-fi mp3 ages ago .. whcih was all-reeeet. just.
so ILM .. anyone know the C/S story ?
and i wonder if any of the libertines diehards are out their scouring the racks for that last BAD 12" remix ... what a surprise they are in for if they are tempted ..
