Bone thugs 'n' harmony - E1999 Eternal

Ugh! Hated that song.....so depressing.

Perhaps it's geography...Bone thugs were from Cleveland - not exactly a part of a particularly well-known scene.

I found it celebratory!

I don't think "sweet" is the word, except for that one song. More smooth than anything.

This is a very unique album. I'm tempted to say it's a great album because the good songs are excellent, but it's a bit spotty in places. "E.1999", "Eternal", "Bud Smokaz Only", "Crossroads" (original, not remix), "Me Killa", and "1st of tha Month" are the best tracks.

In retrospect, I am very surprised that no one really took their style and ran with it. I can't think of anyone who raps like they do in that highly melodic fashion-- part thug, part barbershop, part doo-wop.

they have some many weird little phrases and vocal tics and weird ways of saying stuff that i love

like saying "run run" instead of "run" or my personal fav "me killa"

never really read a good interview with these guys? i wonder if their style was dancehall influenced?

the sorta liquid phrasing and half-singing, half-rapping seems kinda dancehall....as well as stuff like "me killa"

growing up in cleveland we all loved bone thugs but i never really had a sense of how they were received outside of cleveland, i was just a kid then too

Yeah, they were pretty big in most circles at my Catholic high school in Cleveland at the time. 1995 was also the year the Indians were absolutely dominant and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened. It was a great time to be in Cleveland.

anyway i drive near e. 99th and st. claire all the time on my way to work. also i learned that my mom's family lived in that neighborhood when she was young. e 94 and lowell
